Anyone know where I can get a translite printed? I've been spending many hours touching up a backglass in photoshop...I had to rip the top off my xerox machine at work just to scan it into the computer (in 6 sections) then I was able to stitch them together, color correct them, and fix all the defects in the paint.

Anyway, I'm looking to get a new one made up. I spoke with a local print company, they said for $140 they can print onto a clear sheet and laminate it to glass, do you think that would work? Or should I try to find a translite printer?

Here's a couple pictures of the process so far!

I don't have a problem paying that, the problem is that I don't know if their method would work. It'd be essentially a print on a clear sheet. That being said, the back would be "colored" and not white, so basically the whole thing would end up being translucent right? And that would be bad.

If the company you speak of is Arcadeoverlays.com then by all means go for it. Todds work is very good. I will advise you to ensure he can match the blue. That color is his kryptonite.

I've never heard of them. Maybe I'll send him an email. The company I was talking about is a local business here in Buffalo.

But the question is still at hand. Translite, or a clear print laminated to glass?

Arcadeoverlays will be a translite so if you want silk screened use your supplier.
I'll pose the question is this machine a long term keeper and a personal grail for you? If so then glass. If it's not then translite.

I don't think it will be a keeper, I think once I restore it, I'm going to sell it to fund one of my more wanted machines. But you never know, I could end up playing it and really enjoying it. But I'm leaning more towards selling it.

I emailed Todd, hopefully I'll hear back from him tomorrow regarding the translite.

I talked to Todd over at Arcadeoverlays, unfortunately he is unable to create something that size. Anyone else know of someone who can print translites?

That works well, I have had some arcade marquees doen that way, but it HAS TO be put on an opaque white substrate. We did clear and it does not look right. We printed on clear and ended up sticking the opaque white over that. SO it would just be easier to print it on the white. But again the thin opaque white. This is speakign from experience.

There are basically 3 ways to do this via inkjet
1- newer Solvent printers can print white in a seprate pass so your image is printed translucent on clear then backprinted with white. its done in reverse and can be applied/laminated to the back side of the glass

2-typical translite print on a trans white substrate. then cutting out your score boxes.

3-inkjet on a translucent white vinyl so the the sore boxes can be cut out.

but with many backglasses theres a silver backing to block out light and highlght text
"Balls in play", "Game over", "Tilt", etc.
for this silver or Black plotter cut vinyl on a thin piece of plex should work with any of the above apps.

I had a tutorial on this on COSP but its been lost :(

Hey guys, check this out. http://www.gameongrafix.com/products/pinball-translite Upload your own file and have it turned into a translite for only $50. I'm going to give it a shot.

good luck, and i hope the 50.00 one works out for you. If your doing it then planning on flipping the game, go the $50.00 route. Im not against putting money into games, ive put alot into some of them. But Attila the Hun will not sell for much and i think that you would lose money on the game by putting 140 in the glass. If you were keeping it, id say go for it, but not if your selling it. I bet that it has a killer playfield to. Ive have hardly ever seen a Attila that had a bad playfield and ive owned a few of them
