I have a zaxxon pcb that is missing an eprom. No big deal, I'm sure I can buy another one on ebay BUT I am not sure what kind of eprom is supposed to go in that empty socket. The problem is (and the problem I run in to from time to time) that I would like to find some master list or database where I can find out which eproms are on the boards I have laying around. Say I want a 2564 eprom. Do I have a board somewhere that has this eprom? It would be nice to have a database that I could check.

Anyone know of a nice place to check?

a list like that would be way too big to make. think about how many boards are out there.

No list is too big to make. Ever heard of a phone book? I can do individual searches and probably find this information but it has been a big PITA just because the signal/noise ratio on the web. I would bet there is a place that has this information.

They make such a list... it's called the manual.

You guys are not understanding what I want.

OK, I have a bad M2732A eprom on my Galaga board. Which manual do I look in to see if any of the 40 PCBs I have on the shelf also have an M2732A so I don't have to buy another one from China and wait 4 weeks from it to get here.

As far as the manual for Zaxxon that you linked to, I see it list "Rom1" on page 104 but I did not see what type rom it was. It might be in there somewhere but that thing is 157 pages long. Not exactly what I was looking for.

Really... did that just happen.

No reason to be rude. If you would like to offer some information (like what rom goes in the rom#1 socket) that would be nice. The fact that it took 5 seconds to find and post a link to the manual just shows how easy this information should be easy to find. Within seconds I can find every movie Clint Eastwood has ever been in, but I can't find what type eprom is used in Zaxxon. Not sure why this is such a strange question.

Sorry dude... you fail at this hobby.

First find the location of the EPROM you want to replace or find the empty socket on the board.... then look at the manual.

Ohh Eprom at U77 is missing and the manual says it's a 2564. I guess thats what I should look for. As for you not wanting to pull any of your 40 pcbs to look for a comparable EPROM thats on you... Hope that helps.

I too would like a master list.

I demand someone do it now!

I nominate Ian Kellog. Now get to work Ian!

What phone book? Have not seen one in years, like trying to find a pay phone.

If i get a pcb that has missing parts i usually look at the pcb first sometimes you might be lucky and they have silk screen wiring stating what it is example 27C64 if not i find out using the manual/schematic what it is and go from there

if all else fails find a photo or ask someone else with same PCB and ask what is in location XYZ

Well I guess I could always use more things to do right?

Slowly I will add information to this site, SLOWLY is the keyword. I need to try to get a template together for what i think would make the most sense. Anyone is free to edit so have at it.

Just parse the fucking mame source code...

You won't be able to tell 2716 vs TMS1716, 2732 vs 2532, 2764 vs 2564 , etc... but you'll get most of the data in one fell swoop.

Zaxxon-era Sega boards are the only ones I've *ever* seen use 2564s. and they've got A11, A12, /CE, and /PGM scrambled with respect to 2764s, so you can't swap them without an adapter.
