Where can I buy Mortal kombat connectors?

But which ones for the midway boards?

I think these from this NBA Jam harness are the same ones used on the MK boards.

Weird looking...

Good idea about bob but I will wait it out for a bit.

the connectors in the last picture (with the JAMMA harness and the player 3/4 harnesses) are not what you're looking for.

the sound board interconnect wiring consists of the 6 wire power/audio harness and the ribbon cable. without one or both of these, you won't be able to have working sound.

you could always build the power harness, from .156 flat molex connectors and I think they're called trifurcon pins that you crimp yourself with needlenose pliers. I do it all the time, in fact I could just MAKE that harness if you really wanted.

the question however is whether you're running a Y-unit MK1 or a T-unit MK1. you could use a Y-unit harness on a T-unit board, as I've done it before myself, the only difference is the T-unit has a 7th pin for a 2nd ground wire, which isn't required, but if you're gonna make something for it, you might as well make it right.

I could alternatively sell you one of my extra Y-unit ones, and I'll just build one for a T-unit myself. I don't know what they're really worth, find that out and I'll make it happen for you.

I'm going to assume by your first post you already have a ribbon cable.

mecha187 thank you for that very informative post! I just dug thru all my molex stuff and I have a stash of the .156 connector housings with the female .156 trifurcon pins. So I am set and can make this harness myself. I just need the pinouts now or a better picture of the harness and to round up some wire 18 or 20g wire thanks to you.

Do you mecha or anyone else have the pinout of the two different harnesses? Im not sure which one this guy has in his machine yet. I would like to be prepared for both when I drive down to his house.

Thank you

Edit: I found all the manuals! Whats the fastest way to tell if it is a T or Y unit?

I engineered this thread specifically for that lol: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=162002&

notice the battery locations.

there's also 2 different MK1 manuals, there will be the dedicated Y-unit type, and then there's a T-unit kit version. I don't know how soon you need to get this done, but if I recall, there's actually a typo in one of the manuals, I think it was the MK1 T-unit one, it has the pinout BACKWARDS on one of the connectors. lol

you could alternatively match them up by what you see in pictures as well.

I'm going to voucher that the monster you encounter is a regular Y-unit though, the T-units are rarer. they were like a late production run replacement since Midway abandoned the Y-unit boardsets and moved onto the newer T-unit (which was used in NBA Jam, and you know they sold a ton of those).

I don't head into work until about 3 pm though, if you can wait til then I can pull up one of my harnesses I got laying around there. and if not, compare notes between the MK1 (Y-unit) and MK2 manuals ... also, does your friend have a 10k ohm volume pot? you also need to hook one of those up to the sound board on MK1, or else you won't get any sound. fortunately those are readily available at Radio Shack... and you hook those up via a 3 pin .156 molex too.

hope this all helps!

Nope no need you solved his issue... Your a first class act! Thanks again for all of your time.

Bob Roberts definitely has them, the nba jam ones are different from what i gathered when i recently ordered 2 from bob this past week. he made a point of asking which MK or if it was nba jam i needed, i ended up getting an extra MK2 one along with one for the nba jam i have that's missing. 7.50$ each + shipping (very cheap compared to fleabay).

On a seperate note he also carries Control Panel Harnesses for all of these games, i picked one of those up also for around 15$ or less if you just want the Kick harness.

ahoy, the NBA Jam one has even more extra inputs, cause in addition to the 3 action buttons, there's the start button and the 4 joystick switches as well. it's a longer connector with more wires.
