where are all of the veteran KLOVers?

I think alot of guys come into this hobby all gung-ho ,and they get burned out fast. You really need to have a passion for this hobby to survive. It way to easy to get caught up in a buying frenzy and then have rooms full of projects and crap. Alot of guys come and go in this hobby, but there are several die-hards that are lifers.

Good point and very accurate, Mark. I'm just glad I'm not in that bucket of folks. :D

Nor me.

I have too little money and too little space to go that route.

I have room for 5 cabs and I have to make them count.

While I still have lots to learn about repairing games it helps that I really enjoy playing every game that I own.

This hobby is just like my old hobby of collecting toy trucks. I look back at those guys just like I look at most of you as a second family. I check the boards every day. 95% of the time, its either to see what's for sale (even though I'm broke), to see if anybody got a new game or posted any new pics/videos.. and mostly for a good laugh. I had well over 200 trucks at one time. I probably still do, but I just got tired of the hobby. The new diecast casts raised the prices of the newer models incredibly. Also, on the one toy truck forum.. I was considered an "original". I think there were about a dozen or so of us. After about 7 or 8 years.. the owner of the forum who I became real close to obtained health problems and sold the forums. From there we lost all of the original members due to the lack of the hobby. I miss a lot of those older fellows and even a special older couple from Nebraska who I learned a lot from.. and bought many a trucks from. I ended up selling a majority of my trucks due to a financial situation. If I could, I would have never sold any of my trucks. But as I got older, I saw a new generation of toy truckers coming along and thought it was time to move on. To this day, I still drop in to the forums to say Hi, and there are a lot of new members over there. Even occasionally the hello from an "original" member which brings a smile to my face showing me that they are still around. After buying my Arch Rivals, I got hooked to this hobby. This one will stay with me for life... whether it be the only 4 games I have now, or any other game I may happen to get later on. You guys are awesome and I am glad I stumbled upon these forums. I am sure, years from now it will be the same with the toy trucks, people will move on in life.. but no matter if I never say hi to a lot of you again down the line, everybody who posts on here will always be in the back of my mind. :004_ssmile:

Another thing is that even though some are newer on here, we were on RGVAC long before a lot of people here had even registered. There are some of us that go back to 95-96 and even before. We just all started migrating from over there once all the internet suppliers killed their newsgroups, etc... and the traffic over there died off drastically.

I just looked and my first post here was 9-18-2009 even though my join Date is Apr 2004. I guess that's the last time I joined VAPS. I was a member of VAPS before that but their was a problem where I couldn't update my account and it dropped me so I had to rejoin and re list all my games. It did this a couple times but I guess things have been running better sense 2004. I had been on RGVAC sense Jan 1, 2000 which seems to be my first post so I have been around a wile. I have 2,240 posts on the news groups.Stoped posting when AOL dropped newsgroup support and they also dropped my web site. It took a wile for me to find my web page files, on an old computer that crashed, copied the hard drive and restored my web pages on my Cox web space. I didn't know about the KLOV Forums until I was updating my VAPS listing. Some of you I remember from RGVAC and some from the Dragon's Lair Project which I still drop in from time to time. And I have been on the Vector List a long time too but don't post much on it. Maybe once every year to ask Clay for an all in one sound card for his Multi-Sega. So I may be new here, but I have been around games for a wile.:D

I can relate to your entire post... if you just substituted "distributed computing/overclocking" for your "toy trucks" it'd be a perfect match for my situation. :)

I've had many hobbies over the years and I consider this my second time around the arcade hobby. I was on rgva.c back in the mid to late '90s and it was great. This time around it's with my 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son and it's even better. That's probably one reason I don't post here like I used to post on rgva.c though... I have people in my own house that I can talk to. :D

So the only one missing is Sentient.

Well the last few weeks have been more than busy....mainly the last one. NYE was crazy busy...Aside from my usual gig running lights at Mosaic Baltimore...I rented out my main rig to another club, programed it and also programed an entire show for Club Mist...all happening in about a 5 day period. Mosaic was also open Fri and Sat nights as well. I think I may be just getting over the jetlag effect from the whole thing. Truth be told..I am well and still very much into the hobby. In fact I have been very stoked about the hobby mainly because I have seen the 1st cut of the trailer for Jeff Von Wards arcade movie, The Space Invaders, and Im all over it! Also I have heard from my repair guy and my Lunar Lander boardset is finally done and that project will have a pulse soon.......thanks for looking out everybody....

i think alot of people got sick of a bunch of shit and moved on. atleast that is what i have heard.

This is some what true. But for me I am still here, not like I used to be though.
The good ol days of this board is what I liked, talkin about 04 here.
Back then most posts were from people local to me (in CA) and also back then you could post something and it would still be on the first page for a week. Almost every member would see your post and reply to it. Now the board has way too many members and is too active, well for me anyway. Back then it felt like a small family. Now it feels almost about like any other forum. Almost never any flame posts or anything, no mods and didnt need them.
I still like it here though, even if I only lurk 95% of the time.

I think it's like any hobby - people come and go.

I was on RGVAC in the mid 90s and most of those people are long gone. Same with the old crowd from the arcade auctions from those days. Before that, in the late 1980s we used to have to call operators and ask if they had games for sale, or look in the classified ads in newspapers. This hobby, like most hobbies, is a whole lot easier to get into and out of in the age of the internet. Plus you have all the parts and technical knowledge available, and the price of most of these games is rock bottom because of the economy and lack of interest. Its never been a better time to get into this hobby, but a lousy time to be dumping your collection of average games.

I laugh when I hear people say "I am never getting rid of XXXX game. I will keep it forever!"

I agree allot of people burn out in allot of hobbies, people get into deep or have to much money into it and get burned out. Almost happened to me but I am a lifer. Learned to moderate.

Lately though things have been tight. I got cut to working every other week so I have been avoiding this hobby because when I am on the message boards there is always something I want or need.

Totally hear you on that one Dave. I always feel myself browsing the for sale section, even though I have absolutely no business being in there right now!!
