When you're waiting to hear back from a seller on Craigslist

Alright, so you've just emailed someone about a game that's listed on Craigslist. Now you're anxiously awaiting their reply. Will you have a crack at it? Is it already sold? Is it going to turn into an auction? All you want is to hand someone some cash and start playing, but you're in that awkward waiting mode.

What do you do during this period?

If you're like me, you keep checking your email- even though it's synched to your iPhone. When your phone rings or indicates that you have an email, you sigh when you realize it's just junk mail or anyone other than the person you're waiting to hear from. You also keep refreshing the ad every few minutes to see if it gets pulled.

I find myself in this situation today. I emailed a guy over 2 hours ago (no phone number). Now I'm just waiting.

Just curious if the rest of you do the exact same thing. I suspect that you do.

*hits refresh* *ad is still there*

Sounds about right..

Just add "have a coronary when the b--tch sells the pinball machine from right out under you" and you're all the way there.

craigs is so frustrating.

case in point my local one has 8 games listed, at $25-50 each, ones a fucking tron, but guess what??? no craigs email link, just a typed link to thier email, and its wrong.

I bet i spent two hours trying variations on it and even different servers just to see if i would get lucky.

Bah! My phone just rang with a number that I didn't recognize. It was one of my co-workers.

Not gonna flag it. That's bad karma. He just responded. Looks like I'm gonna get a crack at it!

Sellers actually respond to emails?

Usually they respond to me, but I'm usually not buying arcades

I just bought a solid ink printer of cl - she responded by morning

I agree tho; if you really want it- it's a painful wAiting game

It doesn't help when some act like they are not really trying to sell it.
Someone on here mentioned that people who do things like that, sometimes are really not intending on selling the said item anyhow. It's a bluff move to make the wife think they are trying to sell it.

One time a guy e-mailed me a month or two later, and asked if I was still interested in the machine. But by then not only did I lose interest in it, and forgot about the thing. I had already worked out a deal with someone who was really interested in selling their machine. I was thinking like "Yeah, ages ago when I didn't have the game."

Still waiting. Dude wrote me back asking when I could meet up. I said any time. I could meet now if he wants.

I've given him my phone number twice, but he hasn't given me his, nor has he called me. I'm at the mercy of email.

CL is fun and you never know what you'll get.

I bought a nice Pace solder station for $45 and spent an extra few bucks to get some other stuff the guy had such as a soldering iron and a chip extractor that went to new homes on this forum. I emailed the guy and said who I was and what I did and that I could use another Pace station on my other workbench and he responded.

Turns out the guy knew how much it should sell for but his wife said $45 so he listed it at that. Cool guy and we talked shop for a bit when I picked it up. He was glad it was going to a new home where it would get used and not flipped.

Last week I bought a Colecovision game console complete with 6 games, 2 controllers, the hard to find AC adapter, and all for $20. The guy said he didn't know if it worked or not to which I told him I didn't care and that if it didn't work, I'd fix it. His wife said he should throw it away but he was happy too that the game system was still wanted by someone. :) He listed it on a Sunday and replied to my email on Monday. I told him I was in meetings with customers all day (and through dinner) on Monday and Tuesday but if he still had it on Wednesday I definitely wanted it. He emailed me back and we set a time at which I picked it up.

I'll mod it with 5v only memory and a composite video output then probably put it in the game room for a while. Modified consoles generally sell for around $125 in good shape.

I find that if I tell folks what I'm wanting to do with something that they tend to bend over backwards to meet up which is really cool.
