When replacing a flyback dont let this happen to you....
I replaced a flyback on a sanyo 20ez and instead of soldering the new focus wire from the new flyback directly onto the existing focus post adjustment, I spliced the new wire into the existing focus wire with a butt connector.
This worked well during testing, but of course when I was ready to unveil a game of Dr. mario to the wifey, I hear crackling and then poof! The monitor went black and inside the cabinet it looked like hell on earth with black feathery pieces swirling around and raining down on the monitor screen. It was an amazing site.
Turned out to be the butt connector blowing a hole and shooting its melted plastic everywhere.
So perhaps there was internal arching from the butt connector and it wanted to make friends with the flyback's metal shielding.
Fixed it by soldering and double shrink wrapping the line splice.
