when did you last get someone re-hooked on arcade games ?

got my next door neighbour hooked on defender recently - so when he was at a pub in the city recently with some mates, he and his mates pumped some hard earned into a galaga machine and had loads of fun! :p

its a great feeling seeing someone enjoy a classic arcade game!

Long time ago my buddy got a pinball machine (Cyclone) and an arcade (Asteroids) He had them in a room in his house. The Cyclone broke down and he had the glass off of it from where he started to repair it, the Asteroids monitor had quit working so that got shoved in the corner. Years went by, I'm talking 5-7 years went by like this with them sitting and all the while, dust and clutter built up to the point where you couldn't even reach the machines. One day earlier this year in fact, I asked to see the room. He Showed me the room, I wish I took a picture.. I said to him. "Man you remember the good times we had in here playing Cyclone into the wee hours trying to top the high scores and such." That was some good times. A week later he calls me and told me that I sparked a fire and he decided to clean out the game room and bring it back to life. Boy did he ever. He had a guy fix the monitor on his Asteroids and then sold it to make room for for a second pinball. He completely re-shopped Cyclone. I mean everything.. Redid the playfield, etc. The max. It looked immaculate when he got it back. That wasn't enough, he purchased a new Spider Man Black pinball to go in the room, he built a nice Mame Candy Cab, Got a slot machine and some pachinko for added flare and then decorated the room. (it's not a big room but it's very nice even so) Now he has very cool little game room check the video he posted for me..

Every time I have a party I get people that start playing and get hooked. I've had several say later "I saw on the invite that you said you were going to have video games, but I thought Xboxes or something. These are so cool...".

Now I just need to convert some of that interest into cash so I can finish a couple more projects.....

Does it count if I was the person who got re-hooked?

New GF hated that my ex was not suportive of the hobby, and so she is really way supportive!(It makes me happy, so big deal? is her ideal)

Had 12-13 games married
Moved out, Divorced, figured I am out of the arcade hobby, sold off 5-7 games to pay off my truck.
Found new girlfriend and up over 30 games all due to her influence!

Hell, she's even gonna stand all day with me at the Auction on Sat!

I just remind her that my obsession is all her fault... she laughs..

Haha my ex GF was supportive until she found out that supportive just makes me even crazier about it. She quickly figured out that she had to be supportive while keeping me in check. Even though our finances were completely separate she still cared that I would blow a lot of money on these things.

people freak out over my mame cab all the time. its like it can turn grown men and women back into little kids.

my close friends i take on road trips all the time. i knw which laundromats and bowling alleys have the best games and pins and we go on mini road trips around the area to play games. it encourages them to dump quarters into my mame cab on a regular basis, because then i hand everyone out 3-5$ in quarters when we go out and play. i call it quarter karma, because without the quarters the games wouldnt have existed in the first place, and without anyone feeding them quarters in the wild, they will cease to exist for the public to play. thats why i take the quarters from my mame cab, which is more the illusion of an arcade game in the first place, and put them into real machines out on route. give and take, something for something, circle of life. quarter karma.
