When did Twin Galaxies start making you log in to check scores?

'cuz that seems like a lot of crap. but hey, i just hate having to have one more user name and password out there when all i want to check is how impossible the marathon record is on the Bosconian i just picked up.

seems like it'll drive a lot of casual traffic away from their site, but then again maybe they're relying on selling the user demographics and stats ala Facebook to make money.

Laaaaame! It must be a very recent change because I looked up some scores last week and a login was not required.

At least the website doesn't look like pure dog shit anymore. They've upgraded to "crappy."

ps: here's my new Bosconian. some water damage on the base but the art on both sides and the kickplate is pretty sweet.

Bah. I'm about done with TG. I submitted some scores in January and haven't seen or heard a peep about them. I've emailed and tried to get onto the forums but nothing ever works on that site. Meanwhile, I see other scores submitted and approved within 24 hours. The new site takes me to the forums when I click Member Info and shows the last 15 verified scores when I click forums. The old site was easy to navigate at least, this one looks like it was set up in 1995, they just need dancing bananas and sparkly pac-man gifs. </rant>

I don't mind the look of the new site, as I wasn't in love with the old look or anything. But having to log in to view scores, I think that's just a huge mistake. They should at least allow the top two or three scores to be viewed without logging in.

A few referees have recently resigned or scaled their work way back, so the response to submissions could be spotty at best right now, too.

Well that blows. They must have just done that 7-10 days ago, as I was just looking up high scores that long ago on the old site.

Simple answer, it sucks.

I see on the TG forum their are quite a few people speaking their displeasure with the new way things are going with having to log in to check scores.

My other gripe is there as well. Needs to be mobile friendly. These two items to me are the biggest offenders.

I often want to check a score real quick like, and unless I'm at work, i do most of my Internet on my phone. I have several computers at home, so it's not like the phone is my only option. With a mobile phone anything you can do without logging on is just one more slow painful step removed.

How else are they going to sell your email address to spammers without requiring a login to view high scores?

The new website is horrible. Not exactly an upgrade. You are right that you have to be logged in to even do a search or view the scores. Plus, all of the old links/bookmarks are now dead. That's just terrible website design/practice. AND you cannot easily bookmark/link to a game/person because it's in a frame. Even if you did, the person viewing it would have to be logged in to view it. This is going to decrease traffic to their website, despite whatever they think it will do.

I'm going to be complaining to them about these issues and I urge others to do the same. I realize it's basically all volunteers, but come on, they can at least not break every link to the website that was created in the past 10 years.

I'd love to complain on the forum but every time I have tried to set up an account, it says that it will email me a link to set it up. Email never comes. I guess you have to be a huge arcade superstar, well known name like Brian Kuh to get any response from that site. ;)
