When did these forums start?

I know I joined in the fall of 2001 and it was really active even then.

Before KLOV got big, people used a newsgroup, that was huge. The newsgroup started having issues (technical issues) and KLOV's membership exploded.

..and the ratio of spam to real content exploded. RGVAC was great, at one time.

I had to read that one twice.

Many people may think you meant that the spam/content ratio on KLOV followed the membership explosion.

But you really meant that the spam/content explosion on RGVAC led to a migration over to KLOV.

On a side note- has anyone noticed the google newsgroup search becoming less and less effective against the RGVAC archives? It used to really dig up some good stuff and now it's severely lacking.

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear. I don't know why, but it seemed like there was a ton of spam on rgvac, but it wasn't as bad on rgp. People drifted away from rgvac to this place, and the longtime newsgroup posters seemed to either just disappear or end up on KLOV.

I haven't tried to search in a quite a while, but usually I'll search rec.games.pinball archives and get a lot of noise in the results.

There's an account from 3/31/2001, though if I recall the story correctly, I think there was one forum prior to the old ubb.threads forum which is what was in place when I signed up. I could be mistaken, but I think when that first one went down, members had to sign up again which may mean some members actually go back prior to 3/31/2001...unless the user accounts and sign up dates carried over like they did from ubb to vbulletin.

Honestly, I figured tbbk would know better than most. Or maybe osver.
