Is that all that gets taken out?

I have a berzerk cab with a wells 4600 in it. I had no video, monitor power was unhooked. I guess i found out why, i plugged it in and it started smoking, the smoke continued for about 8 seconds untill i was able to unplug the connector again.

THe 4600s are a personal mystery to me, tons of krap packed in there, weired daughter cards etc.. When the flies go bad on these is that all that goes or does the bad fly take more stuff with it?

I think i have a couple parts 4600s inclusing one that was sold to me as rebuilt and didnt work but fly looks clean so i might swap it out.

The 4600 flyback used to be one of the more robust ones.. now i see them crapping out often. I guess it's their decade to start failing.. never seen them eat anything else on the chassis though when that particular one fails.

That is good to know chad thank you for chiming in. FYI the chassis i bought as rebuilt that didnt work, did not come from chad just to clear any confusion.

I guess it depends on how it goes bad. I had a 4600 in a Pac-man that had a blown fuse and the HOT was shorted. I installed a cap kit, replaced the fuse and HOT and when I fired it up it blew the fuse and HOT. I tested all the plug in boards in a working 4600 that was in my Frogger and the boards all worked. So I swapped the flyback from the Frogger 4600 and put it in the Pac-man 4600 and replaced the fuse and HOT again and this time the monitor fired up and worked great so the Flyback was bad and caused the fuse and HOT to blow. The bad part is the monitor worked for about 8 hours and went dead again. Turns out another bad flyback and it took out the fuse and HOT again. I bought a used replacement flyback and replaced the fuse and HOT and it's still working and that was almost 2 years ago
So I would say a bad flyback can take out the HOT and fuse.
Here's the thread if you want to read about it.

ok. i will dig into it tommorow night or weds night and report back. It was rolling the smoke away right untill inplugged, so hopefully its still fired up and running..

if not, im pretty sure i have a working chassis on a necked tube somewhere in my hoarded pile of krap, er, i mean parts.

SO i installed a good used flyback. The monitor sprung back to life, with a flat horizontal line across the middle. UGH..

I pulled the card that has the hold adjustments on it and found one open trace, so i jumped the trace.

It then produced a full size image that could be adjusted out and holds vertically, but does not hold horizontally. Looks to have wayyy too much green also.

I swapped that card for another one. Same. Swapped again. Same.

Unfortunately i dont have any more of the video input cards so im stuck for the evening.

I think one of the other machines also has a wells 4600 in it so im going to back them up back to back and see if i have a monitor issue or boardset issue at this time.

Im hoping the video pinout is just wrong or something but who knows.

The boardset in this thing is weired, cinematronics cinemat syetem? New to me lol.

cap kit time

The caps on these monitors go bad and the results are very noticeable buy a cap kit from bob roberts they are cheap like 5 bucks, reflow all the pin headers, bad solder joints all the time. your two much green comes from not enough red and blue, green is not adjustable. Good luck I just rebuilt a few with great success until I hooked the yoke in wrong trying to flip the image. Now I'm rebuilding one again lol
