what's your ROBOTRON personal best?

I believe my best is about 1.2 mil. One of my absolute favs and a great game if you just want to get a quick 10-30 minute fix of intense, non-stop action.

So for those of you who pass a mill, what's the secret? Do you take a couple horse tranquilizers before playing?? Cripes!

I think pretty much anyone who plays regularly can score a million points on this game on TG settings. It's not that hard. There are couple of levels towards 1 million which are a bit tough but if you have some lives in reserve getting a million points really isn't that hard. They key is not to waste lives in the early going. You really shouldn't lose a life until the first brain wave at the earliest, and it is possible to make it past the first tank wave or later without losing a life.

I have no idea how to score 20 million though. There are videos on Youtube of very good Robotron players. When I see the moves these players make to get out of certain situations, and think about the moves I would have made, I realize that some people simply have better eye hand coordination, and split second decision making skills, than others. I think that just a fractional better ability can make a big difference in some games.

I haven't played Robotron since Ronald Reagan was president and I had a mullet. I really want to play it again since the game gets so much love here.

When you guys spawn in, do you go right for the humans or do you start taking out the bots first? Also I know a trick is that you can start grabbing stuff before you've totally teleported in, which helps sometimes.

start taking grunts out. look for the quickest way to the edge of the board, shoot your way through, and try to get humans. when you do this, if you keep going in circles you can keep the grunts following you and keep shooting them.

I assume you mean default settings, 3 to start, extra every 25K (which is the TG Marathon setting). The TG Tournament setting of 5 men only, no extras, I believe only one person has broken a million (that'd be John "the Machine" McAllister :D )

Shit! You guys are good! I think my best is like 342K, and that was a fluke. A "good" game for me is about half of that.

>>> WARNING !!!! SHAMELESS PLUG AHEAD <<<

For those adding many new scores to the High Score table
and are frustrated by the 5-entry limitation,
there is a simple one-eprom swap that eliminates this restriction
and allows you to fill the entire page with the same initials.

It's appropriately called the "ego" rom.... ;-)

(...sorry for hijacking the thread... )

Cheers,

In my machine I combined the 'ego' rom with the corner reset bug fix I found while digging around the net. It appears to have been released on the "Digital Eclipse Williams Arcade
Classics for Windows 95 CD"

No more resets and I can fill my machine with all the KEN's I want!

Personal best is right around 40million. 9,999,975 is on the machine now. 835k 5man TGTS

I never have been able to break a mil. I believe 929K was my best - so close! Arghhh! lol I sure do love that game, tho.

I can usually hit over 500k after a couple of games and have gotten 800+ 900+ many times. I think I've only crossed 1M twice and one of those was about 1.3M

my avatar

my avatar has my latest score. i usually stop after 5 million or screen 100 playing at default setting starting with 3 men and bonus after every 25000.
save the people- go for the people that will give you the points to get bonus robotron every 25,000. ignore the people at the robot tank screens. also note.,when a bunch of enforcers are chasing you do not run away from them, keep them close to you and go towards them at full fire. by doing this you keep them firing at you at close range and you can shoot their bullets. if you run away they will spread out and shoot all over and then their bullets become hard to dodge. also as these enforcers are shooting at you, stay off the walls because their bullets tend to slide on the walls and into you.
try to keep your moves random, for example if you are going towards the right and the enemies are shooting at you whether they be the tank robots or the enforcers, they are shooting to the right of you and ahead of you because they see you going right. when they start shooting like crazy stop going right and if it is clear stop and go left and vise versa.

you must be one with the machine. i cant explain this but i zone-in in a very scary way and i can see myself squeezing in between the enemies and dodging fire. you have to have a very clear head and be focused on the game to master it.
just my 2 cents
good luck!
