What's your method of channeling for T molding?

My collet can only hold a 1/4 shank. What should the width of my cutter be?

Get the 1/16" from MLCS. The cutter, arbor, and bearing assembly, complete is only $16 shipped.

Even if Lowes or HD had a slot cutter, it would be much more expensive.

But I might be building a CNC router in the near future.

Wait, what?

That's possible? Whoa. Coolness.

Yeah, there are a number of sites out there with details. Still costs quite a bit, but nowhere near as much as a shopbot.

I've been reading quite a bit at http://buildyourcnc.com. Their system is a bit pricey, but the site is loaded with good information.

And back on the topic of slot cutting, the coolest method is to drop a few grand on a CNC router, and have it cut the slots for you. ;)

Wooooooo!! Got me a router today!! Stopped at a pawn shop and they had nice little Craftsman for $20. Now that thats done I have another issue. WHy the hell can't I find a 1/16 bit in any store!!!??? Anyone have any online suggestions??

Sweet! Nice thinking!

I may do the same...

Ordered my setup from MLCS on wednesday and got it friday. Put it all together yesterday and got my slot finished. I had a problem though. The bit was making the wood smoke like crazy even when feeding super slow. My router is a fixed speed model but do you guys think the speed was maybe to fast,or maybe it was the type of wood I was cutting into?

Thanks to everyone that helped recommend a setup for me I appreciate it!!

It's possible you put your blade on upside down and it was running in reverse.

Mine smokes a little bit sometimes, but nothing out of the ordinary, which is what you seem to be describing... Hopefully the backwards thing fixes it!

I would recommend getting a variable speed adjuster for your router. They are cheap, and depending on the bit you have, it may be unsafe to spin full speed.
