I was around 11 or 12 years old so it would have been 1982 or 1983, put a quarter into Donkey Kong and before I knew it made it to the elevators level. I normaly died on level three so I was pumped. When the kids around me heard the noise of the spring on that level they started to gather around. The attention I was getting was pressuring me to go on and not disappoint. Somehow made it to the pie factory with many oooohs and awwwhs behind me and died. I felt like a rock star with all the groupies behind me. I'm pretty sure that was around the time I got in trouble for stealing quarters out of my brothers coin collection so it probably was a $5 dollar Donkey Kong game lol...

So what's your greatest arcade performance? was it a high score? getting to first base with someone? or maybe finding a game with a bunch of free credits.

Not greatest by any means but most recent. I got 3 replays on a Monopoly pin on my lunch and had to abandon them when I went back to work.

When I was in the Army during my AIT training back in 94 part of my class was put on a late nite swing shift going to school at night. We would get back to the barracks around midnight. We had a NBA Jam game in our dayroom. Well I guess the route guy forgot to lock the control panel down and some how we figured out that we could tilt it open and get free credits. We would hit this machine for an hour or so every night after class. This lasted a few weeks. I bet he was pissed when he realized why it wasn't making any money. :D

Not arcade, but I beat the original NES Super Mario Bros on 1 man with no warps.

For arcade it would be breaking 500,000 on Galaga back in the 80s on a poor neglected cab with a sticky fire button and a dim screen.

When I was around 12, I scored 250,000 on Donkey Kong. It was a really fun game, and at least 100k better than anything I had done before that.

As an adult, my best arcade performance has been finishing Stunt Cycle. lol

Rolling Eyes for the first time.

My answer could change to setting a world record at some point.

NICE.

There's a chance I'll be doing it at CAX, but depending on how things go, I'm going to try at Grinkers if there's time when Clint isn't too busy.

I was maybe 10 or so. I embarrassed a college dude in front of his friends by beating him in Mortal Kombat 3 eight times in a row. They dogged on him the whole time. My dad was quite amused.

Maybe about 10 years ago I played Soul Calibur II and defeated 26 people in vs. mode in a row. Fine enough on its own, but my B button didn't work.

Race Drivin back when it came out in 1990. I scored over 4.5 million points. Played on one credit for over 4 hours.

I've got two:

1983...i was 13...Dig Dug...level 64 or 69...really cant recall but it was either of those, and 895,000 points...i would crush it on dig dug but never like that...did it once and only once...i usually got to levels 30-40...but i dunno, that day, that quarter, i was unstoppable....all of my friends were there to see it happen....one of them even wrote the score down on a napkin for me, thats how much a big deal it was to me and everyone around me....wish i still had that napkin.

1984-85....popped about 40 plus games on charlies angles pinball at a local ice cream parlor...the only ones there were me and the owner..i played for hours...so much i got bored but couldnt stop...i was amazing myself....as luck would have it, near the end, the operator guy showed up to collect the quarters from all the games so i had to stop playing so he could get in the machine and like a dumb ass i bragged to him.."....yeah...i popped 38 games so far...been playing for hours.....etc..etc"...he was like "oh really?"...he did something to the game...i couldnt pop hardly any after that.....and in trying to squeeze every game i can out of it, when it was all over i go up to the owner and say "hey...your sign says if i beat the high score i get a free game....well i beat it...can i get my free game?"..he basically said "Scram kid..u been playing for hours....you shouldnt have told the operator u popped 38 games."..I rushed home on my bike and called my best freind.."dude...you wont belive this...etc..etc"

I will never forget those two days.

Not sure. I have a few I'm proud of:

Scored over 2 million on Robotron on default settings with a broken left joystick. Two of the leaf switches had fatigued and broken and were hanging by a thread. They registered only intermittently, and I couldn't move diagonally down-left or down-right; had to stair-step movements in those directions.

Maxing out Wild Western.

World record on Arabian.

Over a half mil on my first man on Mario Bros.

550k on one man on Donkey Kong.

I'm pretty proud of my 337,000 points on my FIRST CAR in Spy Hunter.

A buddy and I used to kick ass on the Asteroids machine in the Stop N' Go which only had two games. We would run up a ton of extra men and sell them 5 for a quarter to the kids waiting to play. Funny thing was the 5 ships were killed faster than starting a game with 3 because there were too many rocks and spaceships. For a moment in time, I felt like an OP.

Finishing Arkanoid twice (on one quarter each time) back in the early 90s. The scores were a bit varied...the first time I did it, I managed over 1 million, and the second time I was just below 900k. Though I have it on my Arcade SD, I find it impossible to play well with a trackball. One of those games that I miss playing sometimes. If I had more room in my basement, I'd probably consider buying a dedicated Arkanoid cab.

I got 408,000 on Time Pilot when I was so shitface drunk the machine was the only thing holding me up. Haven't come within 100,000 points of that since.

So what's your greatest arcade performance?

I can think of two, both from back in the arcade days, so early 80's...

Got 550,000 or so on a Missile Command set to 20,000 for an extra city. I had gotten to the 800,000 level (where the 256 extra cities bug kicks in) a few times on default settings (10,000 for extra city). I think 550k on a 20k extra city game was a better played game. Once you reach high levels on a 10K city game, you really don't even need to defend your cities, if you shoot well, you can score 10K every round. On a 20k city game, you MUST defend cities at least 1 out of 2 rounds and more like 2 out of 3 rounds depending on how the score falls.

Got 49k+ on a Deluxe Space Invaders. I was a major Space Invaders addict when it came out. I played it all over and sought out any game room if I heard there was a hot player there. I have only seen one person ever, beside my game, get over 30k on Deluxe SI. The world record listed is absolutely bogus. I think it's 200k or so. It's higher than the regular SI record. No possible way. Deluxe SI is WAY harder than SI. If the SI world record (by Richie K) is about 125k I believe, there is no way someone did better on Deluxe. Richie could not use the technique he used on SI on Deluxe SI. I am not saying Richie isn't great on SI, he is. I give him full complete credit. But I challenge him to get even 20k on Deluxe.

mine has to be when my dad worked for aladdin's castle. It was great getting all the free tokens I wanted when he was working there.. he would also put credits on a lot of machines too...

my biggest moment was when I beat dragons lair on like the 3rd day it came out in my area at least.. everyone standing in back of me watching the monitor on top of the machine... clapping at the end.. ah those were the days..
