Getting prepped for the Contest of CHAMPIONS (@ the Knock Off 3) and was curious what scores you can put up on DK.

Finding myself stuck a few times trying to press points on lower levels... :(

With the online DK kit, it's easy to see the high scores from everyone, but for those who don't have one yet ( shameless plug for 10% off on site for any online kit) what scores have you put up lately on Donkey Kong?

Here's mine from a few years back.

I haven't been playing too much lately.

At that time I would say my average score was between 250,000 and 300,000 and I'd get occasional breakout games over 400,000. Now I hardly ever play and it takes me a game or three to get back up to speed. I'd really like to killscreen one day but I don't have the time to put into regular games right now.

When I got my DK it was set on 6 lives to start with one extra life at 7,000 (a.k.a. 6+1) and I didn't know it. I had set up my storage unit so I could play and DK was wedged into a row of games. I didn't feel like undoing all of that just to get DK out to change dip switch settings so I left it on 6-man start figuring it would be good for practice. After two months of playing 2 or 3 nights a week and some on the weekends I got these two scores back to back. The 889,500 ended early on the 21st level, if memory serves. For some reason after that long game (2 hours) I decided to start another one, figuring I was playing well so maybe the next one would be better. Ended up kill screening that one with 928,500. My best score on the "correct" settings (3+1) is 778,600. The most I've scored on one life is 552k. All of that was in November 2009.

After that I largely stopped playing. I've played maybe 2-3 dozen games of DK since then. I just got busy with other games for a while and then started a new career, so I don't play anything as much as I used to. I still have my DK and plan to get back to it someday.

172,000 is my best so far, trying to break the 200,000 ceiling. DK remix is taking away from my regular DK time, 106,000 is my high on remix so far, such a fun mod and addictive.

Nice SanTe! My thinking on kill screening DK is that it's all about being able to clear whole levels without dying. If you can consistently clear levels without dying, it's just a matter of keeping your concentration and not taking unnecessary risks. Invariably, I die when I get impatient and take an unnecessary risk, or, I loose my concentration and die because I'm not paying attention. Its not uncommon for me to have a 200,0000 score on my first man and I start day dreaming about getting a really high score instead of paying attention to the game, then I kill off a man or two before I learn I need to be concentrating on the game instead of thinking about my score.

I really enjoy D2K but I still haven't broken 100,000 with that one (3 lives settings).

I was happy to get 100k once. I was frustrated with the 3rd springboard level and sold the game. Before it left, I managed to break 100K. I felt a little better.

I use the practice levels on our kits. Makes it a little easier to practice then go through 40 minutes of play time...

Getting some better scores! Just a lot harder now then back in the day. :p

180,000 something is highest so far... It gets really brutal with the random flames kind of just ruining your game. I honestly don't know how the pros do it. Like sometimes the flames just don't want to cooperate and you can't avoid them, ya know?

I agree. Love being able to practice that spring board level over and over to try to nail the timing. Still don't have it down like the pros, but much better.

I just started playing again and an average game at the moment I can get around 150-200k if I dont press.

Back when I played allot more I could bust out 250-300k once in a while but not every time out. I have a pretty short attention span so usually when I lose a guy its something dumb.

I had a game going (like 150K on one man) on the tourney machine at the florida show a year or two ago and someone came and told me how good I was doing and I immediately dropped two guys. doh.

It is pretty amazing the attention span the top players have.. the game really is tough, if you dont pay attention for 2 seconds you are screwed.

My highest ever is 620k but my average game is 150k to about 320k. Once you get over 100k the game really does not get any harder.
