what's wrong with this Popeye board.

thanks Phet

I'm going to assume at this point that it's board issues.

I'm back at tackling this problem.
I tried a whole different monitor. Sanyo EZ vs the XM that I had working.

I tried tweaking the h/v sync like someone suggested and it's the same. MB looks great. Popeye not so much. I'm asking Dick M to see if he can look at my board.

I finally figure it out...

it was just a bad board sold to me as working.... man that was fustrating and it took me another "untested" board to show that the boards do in fact swap dirrectly...

This is a different board so I don't know if I'll even keep the scrambled board...

More than likely you have a ram issue on your board. See the lines running through the graphics for an example.

Would you consider selling it? Just throwing that out there, I like to play that game on mame.
Ditto, I would possibly be interested in buying the bad board too (although for different reasons - I'm curious to debug it and see what the problem is)

Someone PM me w/ a fair offer. Note that the interconnect cable is missing.

Its odd cause I bought it from a reputable seller here as working and then I traded something for an untested popeye board (that happened tobe missing the interconnect cable) The untested board works fine and now I can work on completing my Mario WB/Popeye cab

That is what I am going to do with the board set myself and be legal to play on mame.

Can you post a pic of that cable 'cause I would like to have one ready to test with. I too am leaning towards a ram chip bad. I don't think I have any of that type so will have to make an order with Riptor.

Your monitor obviously needs a capkit for the compression at the top, but it looks like the H/V counters are bad on popeye...

Personally, I'd tend to agree with Mark, he knows his stuff and ram issues usually don't manifest the way they have on this one. You've got stretched/doubled images and that's not usually ram.

So now, to find out what the hell a "H/V counter" is, lol.

I am not sure at this point if this is the issue with this board but I did verify the roms and the ones at 7a, 7b, 7c, 7e all had different check sums. They were only slightly off but they were not the same as the mame roms. They don't even want to re program and if when they do they have different check sums when read multiple times. Each read produces a different crc.

One of the problems is the roms did not check out in mame. I save the original code that was on them but were different. They were only slightly off on the checksums but that is the first issue I fixed.
