I posted a want ad for a Punch Out!! in So Cal. I was contacted by "Postmortem01" who offered to sell me his. We agreed on a price.

2 weeks went buy with multiple excuses of "working late". OK, no big deal. Stuff happens. Even though we only live about 6 MILES APART.

I would send texts every few days asking when we could complete the deal. Most of my texts went unanswered. He then contacted me and told me that his father was in surgery. I told him not to worry about the deal, we'll do it when he can. A few days go by and he tells me his father had complications. I again tell him not to worry.

About a week later, I see that he has posted his Stargate machine up on craigslist. I send him a text asking "If you don't have time to complete the deal for Punch Out!!, how do you have time to complete the deal for Stargate!?" His response was "how does one affect the other?". Didn't make any sense at all to me so that's why I posted on here.

About a week goes by with me occasionally texting him "hey, I'm still interested", "I'll throw in an extra $50". No response. He then texts me about 3 days ago and says "I can do this weekend". I say "Great! Let's do noon Saturday!". At this point, I have turned down 2 other deals while waiting to complete this deal.

I wake up in the morning to a text that says "My company is sending me to Louisiana. I might not be able to do Saturday." I respond with "I will come over TONIGHT to get it!" No response.

I get a response this morning(1/31) "I'm in Louisiana. I'll be home tomorrow or Saturday at the latest". At this point, I know this is just more bullshit. I respond with "Cool, thanks". About 7 hrs go by and I get this text:

"Hey. Someone just sent me links of you posting about being pissed out the Punchout deal(this thread). To tell you the truth, I'm a bit annoyed with this entire thing. You should just buy from someone else."

Hahahah! PRICELESS! HE is the one that is annoyed by me!

I'm not sure, but I can't wait for him to post up and call you all sorts of names because his dad is in the hospital or whatever. LOL.

I cant wrap my head around people sometimes. Why the fuck are you telling someone you want to sell something, then cannot arrange a time to meet up. Fucking dont sell it if your going to be that flakey. I've had to deal with some fucking dickbags before when it comes to buying. When I sell something, I'm on time, the first time, smile on my face. If its for sale, I'm fucking selling it if you want it.

It's true that he's been kinda weird. It may or may not be be for good reasons. It's also true that it's quicker to post an ad then to arrange to meet someone for the sale so he still may have been busy... I don't know.

Too bad he just vanished when you questioned him about it. You know, I may have done same thing as you did because I'm that kind of person too.
Conclusion: you lost a deal for being normal. In retrospect tho, I think you should have been "nice" to him and just go on with your polite attempt at meeting him.

I know. The same thing happend to me... :(

I had that happen to me, but the guy was nice and he had gotten really jacked up so we canceled the deal. He ended up in the hospital with pnemonia and then kidney failure and last I heard from him he was waiting for a donor. Bummer for him, but I talked to him a few more times just to shoot the shit about his operating days. He was a really nice guy...just couldn't get it arranged to sell his games off. His sister took over the selling and paid a tech to rework all the games before calling me up...bummer for me.

I have the opposite situation. Made a deal with my lawyer. I would find him an outrun machine and in return he got me a good deal on my refinance. He got sick so I held on to the machine. Two years later he asked me if I still had it. I said yes. He's interested. I said come over anytime. Now he's got the flu. So far I got the better end of the deal. He saved me $8k and I have an outrun.

Sounds like the dude who was gonna repro the Mario Bros marquees.

I've found that a lot of items ending up on Craigslist are "impulse sells".

It's the fastest, cheapest way to list something, which means the seller has little to no risk in putting it out there.

If they have a change of heart for whatever reason (want more money, don't want to get rid of it, etc.) they're out nothing.

It's the same as the people wanting games shipped...

"I need a game shipped"

Me: I can do that.

"Nevermind, seller backed out"

After a day or two...

"The deal is back on"

Me after a few more days: "Is this deal still on ?"

I never heard anything else from that person.

Oh wait, that was YOU ! Guess you know how it feels now huh...

Im sure weve all had it happen! Had a guy on here ask me for a price shipping a CP. I gave him a rough estimate and said id get an exact figure after i boxed it up if he was still interested. He replies yup sounds great, just lmk the actual! So I spend all the time finding a huge box for a 4 player midway control panel, get it all wrapped and boxed. Shipping quote comes in $5 less than my estimate. PM reduced total, and never heard a word back.

Golden rule: until the game is loaded in your vehicle it's not really yours.

Having someone from here flake out on you is probably pretty rare compared to Craigslist, although it has happened to me a few times, mostly on parts deals.

And you really can't relax until it's sitting in your own residence, with the doors locked, the windows shut, and Etta James' At Last playing on your stereo.

Guilty as charged. Guy kept clowning me on that sale and bailed out all together. I meant to PM you but then then saw the you posted that the route was already full. Still no excuse. Sorry about that.

Uh oh you got on Arcs bad side? He will NEVER let it go, trust me on this one.
So who was it? I'm guessing marajuana was involved. A few KLOVers down here are so baked they forget which excuse they fed you the day before ;)

In all matters worldly: set your terms (for yourself), then stick to 'em. This could keep you from having a female companion, though. (As well as some other....arguably....uninteresting things....) And it's worth it. Every. Day.
