What's the worst arcade related screw up you've ever made?

I necked a tube... a perfectly lovely non-burned tube (always seems to be the case).

I somehow managed burn up a few traces on a Golden Tee "perfect solution" multigame PCB. These little bastards are VERY expensive for what they are. Luckily I was able to get the thing going with a few wires and some solder.

I dropped my Warlords...somehow... but managed to save it from destruction... with my knee (leaving quite a decent wound).

I dropped a Tempest door on my leg giving me a decent scratch... that got infected and eventually needed surgery. Woohoo!

I was adjusting the monitor on my Tempest CT and heard a loud pop and saw smoke, that took a while to fix. I was also adjusting the B+ on my Missle Command cabaret with a screwdriver (I now have the proper adjustment tools) when I accidentally touched something metal and heard a very loud pop and completely lost the picture.

thanks to all the posts in this thread, i'm dreading my first tube-neck-snap ... i'm sure it's just a matter of time.

i'm talking like "phobia-grade" dread. thanks a LOT, JERKS.

I picked up one Saturday and rode around with it seat belted in the passenger seat for three days because I was lazy. I'm surprised I didn't neck it.

Dropped a screwdriver working on my Atari Star Wars game with it powered on. Sparks flew and I smelled smoke! I was sure it was ruined. Only damage was one blown RAM chip which I replaced. Works great to this day.

bump! it's been a year since this thread received any attention!

i guess it got buried like all the good threads do...

Necked a burn free WG6100 with the back of a Liberator machine I was relocating. Yeah, monitor was temporarily on the ground whilst cleaning up.
Necked a K6100 tube :( I had to leave the house after that one..
Same here, necked the burn free 6100 from my Gravitar!
1) Necked a perfect G08 tube. Still kicking myself about that > 1 year later.

It's been 2 years now Shupac, are you still kicking yourself?

Can I join the color vector X-Y monitor necked club?

so I was moving games out of my storage unit to get a game buried deep in the back,
in the process of moving Space Duel, I guess I forgot to remind myself that I didn't
bolt the monitor in there. So tilting it back onto the dolly, the monitor flipped forward
and the neck caught the wood panel above and ... Ptsssssssssssssssss.... vapors!

I just dropped $600 on that fucking thing too. What a gd waste of money. Fuck My Life.

I bought a pinball overlay for my Supersonic. I left it in the tube in the garage until I was ready to use it. When I later opened it up, it bubbled up and became usable.

This is what nightmares are made of.

My first game, Mortal Kombat, came without a chassis on the monitor. I got a replacement chassis and the picture is flipped. No biggie, just swap yoke wires. Except I did it with it on, got a pretty good shock.

Was slot cutting a midway cocktail top on my router table. Slipped and my thumb went right into the slot cutter blade at about 18,000 RPM.

Put power to a JROK multi Q*Bert board with a pair of scissors underneath, instant smoke. Luckily JROK was able to fix that for me.

Picked up a Killer Instinct. My gameroom is upstairs in the loft. My brother and I were trying to get it up the stairs on a dolly. Go up one step, decide it's too heavy, and come back down a step. When we came down the step it bounced and hit me in the face, shattering the crown on my front tooth.

Dropped a pristine Paperboy down 5 stairs of my walkout basement.

Had my wife run over a deliver of an art kit from TOG that I had been waiting over a year.

Had a Virtual On come through the back window of my truck when I had to emergency brake / drive off road when I had a tractor trailer (not his fault) move in front of me at high speeds to avoid an accident occurring in front of him.

Passed on a dedicated Japanese Gunbullet cab for $350. Passed on a Bandido upright. Knocked over a Galaga cabaret onto tile.

I cringed reading all of this.
