What can you tell me about Asteroids in the white Lunar Lander cab?

From what I have read the first 200 Asteroids machines were actually "Lunar Lander" cabinets; Asteroids was so successful that Atari cut Lunar Lander's production run and released the 200 aforementioned machines, complete with their original Lunar Lander cabinet art.

We picked up an Asteroids tonight in the white Lunar Lander cab that has the Asteroids control panel, etc. Could this be one of those first 200 machines? Is there anything "special" about this cab? Anything I should know?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

1-That would be really cool if it was! Ive heard something along the lines of the lunar landing in early asteroids cabs, but I cant verify it. Tell Gozer to make a special sketchup cab.
2-Don't know if there is anything special, but you can tell people it's special and wink at them.
3-I didn't do it. . . I swear!!!

Check the harness for a conversion board at the pcb. I think they used the original ll harness. I guess they are kind of special. Id be tempted to convert it back though. :D

Revert a factory conversion? I know this is a preservation society, but MAN! :D

I know the Lunar Lander cabinet I just picked up is a factory Asteroids. The serial number starts with AST.

I don't have a white cabinet though... I'd love to see pics of yours.

One of my customers has a factory Asteroids in a Lunar Lander cab with owl-eye door and LL side art. The serial number starts with LL...but it is a black cab...

I would like to see a picture of a LL cabinet with white sides. I have never heard of one. From what I remember Asteroids was such a big hit they took LL cabinets and built them as Asteroids with the LL side art and they had the original style owl-eye coin door. The only white sided cabinet I ever heard of was the last 200-300 Asteroids made had white sides with Asteroids art and had the newer style coin doors. I have seen a white Asteroids cabinet but never a White LL cabinet but not saying one doesn't exist.

just curious, if it's got LL side art and a LL serial # how do they know it's a factory conversion?

LL

They factory converted around 200 LLs to asteroids. There was also LLs that were field converted to Asteroids as well. You should be able to tell by the serial number what one it is. LLs had white on the inside of the cab walls.

Here is a field conversion I just sold. Notice the white

A friend of mine has an Asteroids in a Lunar Lander cab. He bought it from a some rich guy who bought it new for his kids way back when. It has the owl eye coin door and the cabinet doesn't look any different from a typical Lunar Lander cabinet.

Yeah its not a Lunar Lander sorry my bad. I told Game Girl wrong it was late when i was loading games. I don't know much history on Asteroids but i thought the white side art was the last 200 or so production run. Does anyone have info or a story about the white side art Asteroids. Thank You....

White Side art

I have had 12-14 Asteroids. One of them had the white stripe on the side art. I dont remember the serial number but it was a high one. The first one I saw pictures of, I thought someone painted or put white vinyl on it. After I got one. I could tell it was factory. Not sure why they did it.

Yeah i have seen the Lunar Cab but not one with white side art stripe. I thought i was color blind when loading it, Kinda tripped me out for a bit. Also the S/N on the cab is 45075. Its missing the main board and has slight water damage so i will try to restore it.

Alright so now that we now exactly what it is, what should I do with it? I'm not looking to keep it, anyone interested in it?

The monitor, ps, etc all works it is just missing the pcb. The cab is over all pretty nice. It does have slight water damage on the bottom.

Because it had an Asteroids build tag stapled to the inside.

And it does NOT have white walls anywhere...

For some reason I though I had a photo of it somewhere, but I can't find it now...

I have also seen one of those. It looked exactly like that with the white stripe around the edges of the cabinet. I don't know if that makes it worth more money or not.
