What's the scoop on Babystar 465 in 1 jamma pcbs

Saw these boards on jammaboards.com and was wondering how they work, do you need to connect them to a computer to use them or can you just put them in a cabinet.

I bought one a while ago, and when I installed it into a cabinet, the image was upside down and the sound was messed up. I couldn't figure out how to "flip" the image in the settings, and believe me, my monitor is NOT installed "upside down" as I have used LOTS of boards in that cabinet without issue. The wiring for the sound is set up for stereo, so it is similar to a neo geo multi-slot, so the standard Jamma harness will give you only "half" the sound, and the sound that you DO get is messed up. It has been sitting in a closet collecting dust ever since. VERY FEW cases of using "multi" boards have left me with a positive impression. The only ones that I am TRULY satisfied with are the ArcadeShop programable and the Jrok multi Williams, which is a modern day re-build of the original hardware...

they do seem to be made cheaply and they dont even list the game list, i dunno but am buying a video converter form them soon

If its Jamma yeah with an adapter. I just bought the adapter at Jammaboards and it works great, BUT, Neo Geo cabs do not natively have a -5v wire at the harness, although the power supply has it.

Bob Roberts apparently sells just the wire with proper pins to add it to an MVS cab. I haven't done mine yet but will soon so I can run other boards in the cab.

EDIT - To LeeBee99, why not just flip the vertical side of the yoke plug in the monitor to flip over the picture, if you can't get the board to flip properly?

I picked one of these up from Ebay a while back. The total amount of games is closer to 365 if you remove all of the multiples. I also had a completely flipped screen when I first plugged it in. After combing through the archives here I found that I had a WG7000 series monitor and I found the correct way to flip the connectors to get the image correct.

Other things to note (some have been mentioned already):
-the sound is stereo. In my mono cab I'm missing either music or sound effects on games.
-I don't have any original games to compare too. I bought this board to play classic vertical games (Donkey Kong, Galaga, Pac-Man, etc.). Donkey Kong Jr. has noticable slowdown, but I don't know if that is just emulation of the original hardware.
-The CPU fan is super-loud. I bought a computer fan speed controller to slow it down as it seems it always runs at full power regardless of temperature.
-I still need to adjust the vertical size after changing the board (need to order some plastic screwdrivers to do so)/

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

I also had to flip the yoke plug in on mine.

And the fan is SUPER loud. No throttle control whatsoever. As another has suggested, put a throttle fan on it.

However, a month or so ago. I went to boot it up and it says that it can't boot off of my CF card. I have the USB key plugged in, but it comes up without a partition to boot off of. So I don't know if Im hosed, or if I can get another CF card and maybe someone could copy or direct me to the ISO or whatever I need to get it going again. Everything is attached as it should be, I just wonder if my CF card isn't borked up.

Suggestions? Help? I've gone to that XXXXin1 website, but they mostly deal with the 16XX in 1's and such, not many of them have messed with this vertical board. Any help would be great!

I unplugged the fan and hot glued a quieter one on top of it lol. Its been working that way for 2 years now. And very quiet.

There is an iso image of the CF card around. I might still have it somewhere.. I ended up converting my 465 in 1 to a 1xxx in one. its the same hardware, just need a copy of the hard drive.

I have one of these in a multicade that I bought. It was already all set up before I purchased it, so sorry, I can't offer a lot of help on the configuration, although mine does have two (peter chou box type) power supplies in it. I have not been able to adjust the individual game settings, but I do have sound on every game. The problem I have with the sound is that some games are extremely loud while others are totally normal. Makes it a little tough to play Gals Panic II while the wife and kid are sleeping! I have been pretty happy with the board overall as it has several games that I don't have on other multis or in dedicated games- like Gals Panic, Commando, and several others. I believe that I have a pdf with all the game titles. If anyone is interested, PM me your email address and I will shoot it to you.

That would be great if you had that, I could hopefully get this thing working again. PM when you find it if you could. Thanks!

not sure if it's still around but there was a whole site dedicated to explaining how to delete and upload games to these boards. As well as how to format games properly so vertical games will represent correctly on a horizontal screen or vise versa. I believe they also explained how to add a track ball and spinner. This is just a MAME set up with a jamma pin out.
