Which part do you enjoy most about arcade collecting?

Is it:

Reliving childhood memories

The hunt for the game

For profit

Fixing them

Watching friends and family play them

Just playing them

You're obsessed and can't quit

Phet made you do it

Or something else?

Feel free to list more than one.

Restoring them, and then just looking at them in my house and knowing that 10 year old me would totally think I turned out to be a badass adult. hahahah

Getting a deal on a machine, and then fixing it. A close second is telling people I collect them and seeing the look on their face...

The most fun aspect of collecting for me is seeing people's eyes light up when they first look into my gameroom. It doesn't matter if the person is 8 or 80, everyone finds something in my gameroom to be in awe of...

My order would be:

Reliving childhood memories
Just playing them
Watching friends and family play them

You must have a full size picture of your avatar in there somewhere...:D

the memories of chillin' in arcades, and working on them

I've found myself recently, secretly hoping something would break.... I think I'm hooked on solving problems

I enjoy the hunt for the game and fixing them probably the most. Selling some for a profit afterwards makes it more enjoyable and easier on the pocketbook. I am also obsessed and can't quit.

I don't currently have a game room, but when we move or build our next house I will have a game room setup and then watching my kids and friends play them will be a big enjoyment.

The thrill of the hunt looking for that grail machine. At this point, I have most of the ones I grew up with but I am still after a few that I haven't really played that much. And there's always pinballs...

Next would be the feeling you get when you bring them back from the dead...or piece a whole machine together from pretty much nothing. I've saved a few machines....and usually lost my ass on them...Hopefully, whoever got them when I sold them didn't multicade them and gave them plenty of love.

Next would be that wow experience you get when its dark and they are all on and doing their best impression of my ideal arcade that I grew up with when I was a kid. The pursuit of the ideal.

And lastly is the feeling of accomplishment that comes from repairing your own machine.

Worst part: is by far, working on a machine and continually going from bad....to worse...to worst.......Qbert is my waterloo. On the bright side, I plan on being buried with it. Its the only way I can break even cause it would actually be a reasonable casket.

At this point, I just want them sitting there working, ready for me to play them when I get the chance. I am really tired of working on them, and I hate selling them. I like buying them, but I am out of space, so that is hard to do now.

Now I am getting more interested in making the arcade nicer, even though it is just a garage. I am having it insulated now, and then we will finish putting up sheetrock, then texture and paint. I can't wait! I am installing 4 4' double fluorescent fixtures that will be used for black light, in addition to the 6 that are already there for normal lighting. A few months ago, I had 20 switched outlets installed, so each game will have its own switch. I have 16 games and a beer fridge, so not many switches left over.

I am really looking forward to just being able to go out there and play and have a couple of beers after work.
