As the title states, I am looking to find out what the difference is between a DK and DK Jr. cab. My research hasn't been very fruitful.

And they have different artwork? And different PCB's? Is there gonna be a test on this?

LOL... no there's not going to be a test.

I am asking because a friend told me that there is some subtle differences between their actual cabs (beyond paint & artwork) that an expert could probably recognize to identify the original game of the cab.

Nope. Other than the color, which is pretty much a dead give away. If it's been painted over, using a citrus based stripper will tell you within 20 minutes.

I would say about $300. Sorry stupid joke. There is no difference from what I have seen. I have had both in the past and they are identical. As far as the serial number tags. Most Nintendo game kits (I am almost 100% sure) came with a new serial tags. I had a Donkey Kong that had all the tags stapled on the inside of the cab say Donkey Kong but the serial tag was for a Popeye. It had no side art so it was probably converted then converted back.

My fault, I had thought there was something different with the monitor mounting bolts or some other ridiculously tiny difference.

There are differences between cabinets built in the USA and Japan (materials, t-molding, wood thickness, and some subtle cabinet design differences) - however parts should still be interchangeable.
