Whats the deal with the CPS2 18 in 1? Is it a piece a junk? Owners please comment.

Well I saw the 18 in 1 CPS2 a member had for sale and I had never heard of it. Since I have a big blue with Q sound I thought this board would be amazing! I have since found a few people saying they are buggy. Now Im worried. So now Im wondering how troublesome they really are? Is it worth getting or m I asking for trouble? Can any owners please comment? What are the usual problems? Thanks.

I bought one for an operator that was pissed his xmen vs street fighter died.

I played with it for a few hours. I thought the menu was odd. It boots into 1 game and then you need to change it if you want to play something else.

games looked spot on.

Ive heard bad things but the one I had worked perfectly in the end I sold it in favor of a mame setup.

I have one and I love it, but I didn't buy it for the fighters. I mostly play the two D&D games. I have never had any problems with it and the fact that it stays in the game you are playing is a big plus to me, I hate how the 48 in 1 and 60 in 1 back out into the main menu...

I wonder if they can be easily set to free play?

Yes, you have to go into each individual game and set the free play otion just as you would with a normal CPS II board. The only problem is you can not set the front end to free play, so you have to "coin up" in order to select an individual game before playing.

To expand on the FREEPLAY issue with this board...

Yes, you have to coin up to CHANGE games... once you are in each game, they can individually be set to freeplay so you can play that game over and over without having to re-coin up... but if you want to change games, it's coin up time. Also, you have to make sure to coin up when the menu is on screen... if you coin up before the menu comes on screen, it applies that coin to the game you are playing, NOT the menu, so the menu still requires a coin-up when it comes on screen.

Unfortunately no... it always resets back to Giga-Wing... which sucks because with all the fighters on the board, I gave the cab a semi-fighter theme... and it would be nice if it reset to a fighter (or allowed you to CHOOSE which one even).

There was an issue with Marvel Vs. Capcom on multi-boards but I believe this was fixed with this particular board since the hardware is supposedly the same as the big blue boards.

The issue was that the game would slow down during certain portions of the game and for advanced players this was unacceptable. I read that it had to do with the software running in emulation mode rather than on the original hardware. In fact, if you read the advertisements for this board, they mention that it's the exact same hardware as the big blue boards and the game should not be running slow...

I guess someone who's really good at this game needs to play it on this board and report back if the game is playing at an acceptable speed.

There is no "emulation" on this board. It's an "A" board tied to a modified "B" board that contains the ROM information for all games. I am not sure what this "emulation mode" is because that would require a processor to "emulate" the hardware... which would be ridiculous being the "A" board hardware is right there strapped on the thing. Perhaps you're confusing one of the "Blue Elf" multigame boards or something?
