It's the Knocker Coil!

Goes off for matches and free games. Lets the entire arcade know, you are rockin the machine!

To me, this is probably the thing I miss most on the new Sterns.

The sample just doesn't do it. It always sounds over modulated ! (Too loud, making the amp distort).

Bring back the real knockers I say ! ( :D :D )

My brother used to call it a "TOK" when we played pin in the 70's/80's, simply resembling the sound it made. It was the ULTIMATE sound you could get from a pin for us in those days.

Of course, it's value has decreased a lot since about all the pins I play now are on free-play....but I still love the real knock on the wood. You don't only hear it, you feel it !

Hate the pin knockers. I have all 3 of my pins knockerless. In a home environment they're just too damn loud. At the very least I would recommend people add a strip off door insulation to the head board area that the knocker hits as to soften the blow to help quiet them down. Maybe I'm a vag - but when I have guests over and when ever one goes off (KNOCK!!!!) and everyone jumpes 2 feet high - yeah I don;t think so ;)

Mine dont have this but it makes alot of noise already and flashing crazy lights when you match or get extra ball. I wonder why they disconnected it? The wire connections are there. It mentions nothing in the manual either about the knocker.

I've had customers call me to tell me their game was broken. I get there and they tell me it made a loud POP when they were playing. I go into the menu and make it do it again and ask, "Like that?" They say yes. I congratulate them on their high score and explain how the knocker coil works. A lot of them have me disconnect it....

I'm another one who loves the sound of the knocker. My Black Knight has a bell instead, and while it's impressive..... it just isn't the same. I can't wait to have it converted over to have a knocker too, and will be setting it up to take tokens instead of free play.

Sigh.....do these people actually _deserve_ to own pinballs ?

For those who don't know: there's also a videogame with a knocker: Q*bert. One day I will have a Q*bert. With a knocker !

I live in a apartment so I have to disconnect mine... bugs the neighbors at 3 am.... LOL

Anybody who unhooks their knocker shouldn't be allowed to own a pinball machine.
