I looked at the back and thought about dismantling it, but I'm afraid I'd never get it back together correctly. What is the best way for making this coin mech look better? Some of it should scrape off, but whoever converted this the last time has red paint all over the edges. Any ideas?

Well, if you don't want to take the whole thing apart, here is what I would recommand doing:

1. Get some sandpaper and lightly sand the whole thing, removing that red paint and any other abnormal or rusty spots.

2. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some textured spray paint that matches the grey and black colors on your coin door.

3. Mask off all areas that should not get paint on them.

4. Spray about 4-5 light coats.

That is probably the cheapest and easiest method needed to get that coin door looking great again.

Take it apart..only way to properly clean and repaint what needs painting. I have been disassembling a pinball coin door that I'd never get back together unless I took a lot of pics. Use a digital camera and take pics of the before, for reference.

Buy the one I have for reference material or parts and take the best of the two to make one really nice one.

Is there any chemical product that's good to remove the paint on it? The picture doesn't show it, but the metal has a nice textured look, so I'm hoping to not paint it. I don't mind it looking a little aged. I'm thinking light sanding, but i don't want to leave it scratched up. If I can find a way to take off the current paint that might do the trick (otherwise I'll definitely have to take the thing apart probably).
