I'm beginning to create a little arcade for myself, and I was thinking about what I should do to the walls of my soon-to-be arcade. I'd really like to do something with black lights. Possibly a mural with arcade themes or characters, utilizing UV paint and such. I'm still on the fence deciding though, so I'd like to hear about your set-up! (Pics are encouraged!)

A UV mural would be awesome! However, I don't have a dedicated gameroom right now, so that can't be an option for me. :(

You can never go wrong with some framed flyers, though! This pic looks kind of crappy because of light reflecting, though.

They are cheap and it is easy to find them for pretty much any game you'd like.

Well, after deciding to place the big game room on the back burner for a while..

I get to paint the current space I use, to make it more arcade friendly.

So far my theme is "Look at all 80's shit on the walls!"

I still have to narrow down a name for the 'cade!

Thanks for the replys so far. I'm considering a base of deep blue with stars, somthing that would really glow, and then paint a scene with Galaga sprites in invisible UV paint (so they only show up when black lights are on). One problem with murals, arcade cabs are 5' + and in a room with 11' walls, you don't have much of a canvas.

A couple years ago, I was living by myself and had designated a room to be my game/collection room. I actually started with the walls. But before I could do much with it, my dad was getting a divorce and needed a place to live, so now that room is his computer room and my bedroom is my game room. No pics of that, the only thing I have on the wall is a Playstation 3 sign I bought from a game store. But I did finish the walls in the "now" computer room. Its a floor to ceiling collage. Took about 3 months to do...

Wow! That's neat. Imagine that with game flyers! (or copies of game flyers)

a few tron action figures, tempest and warlords cardboard mobiles, and 4 posters - ghostbusters, back to the future, space paranoids, and a joysticks movie poster, signed at cax.

There is a member here named Empire who has a super sick Black-light paint job in his gameroom. Hopefully he chimes in with some photos.

As for me, all my crap is out in the garage, so I have to make it appealing but functional for parking and storage.

1. I run simple Space Invaders graphics above my daughter's game wall.
2. I have comic books hanging as a border around a couple walls.
3. I hang some cool marquees above my little nook area.
4. I've got a salvaged Space Harrier side panel backlit and hanging above my work bench.
5. I've got Luke's Xwing being chased by tie fighters near my Star Wars MAME cab.
6. A few posters: King of Kong, Return of the Jedi, and Space Paranoids all litter my walls.

Ivan, you need a warlords, or a joust! Seriously, cool theme. Gozer, That's a pretty sweet set-up you've got Going on, too.

i've got some arcade flyers (color copies) that i hung on the walls of the garagecade. they illuminate real well with the blacklights set up behind the arcade games.

also have a few of my skatedecks hanging on another wall as well as some other random posters too.

older pics (need to take some updated ones)

Hrmm.. I love the black lights idea?

my room is 26x14, with a high sloped ceiling..

any ideas on how to implement them?

Hmm...probably a couple of tube fixtues on each side if the ceiling, or high up on the wall. You don't need much, you'd be surprised how much this stuff lights up. Or you could also just replace your existing house bulbs, but that's improbable, you've gotta have white light SOMETIMES.

EDIT: Arcade themed uv-painted skate decks would be killer. I don't skate but I think that'd be sweet. You could do a trippy centipede : )

What you are describing does sound pretty similar to what I did on my walls.
The garage has 12' walls so there was still plenty of space above the games.
The ceiling has four 4' black light tubes and I used neon/fluorescent paints, sometimes acrylic sometimes spraycan.
I started with couple characters and just let the "scene" build around them for fill in. I still have enuff space to add plenty more tho.

That room is flipping incredible! Those painted images are huge and I can imagine can be a bit overwhelming at times. I found the giant berzerk robot a bit intimidating! Well done.
