What's NeoGeo games should I look into aquiring?

if you do decide to pick up a few fighters for the system, get samurai shodown II, and king of fighters 98, but like some have said here, there were many other titles for the system, watch out though some of the games still command a high price even on the second hand market ;D

The Neo has something for everyone. Great fighting games. Great beatem up games. Great shooters. Great puzzle games.

the aero fighters games are decent, metal slug games are great, strikers 1945 plus is a great one, thats about all the good ones i am familiar with, i dont care for their fighter games.

Just get a multi cart to find out what you like. Then when you pick ones to buy, you can start learning about all of the boots and all of that good stuff. Neo Geo collecting doesn't seem to be a very friendly endeavor. You really need to know what you are buying, or only buy really cheap just to play, and don't worry about if they are real or not.

My favorites are the shooters and puzzle games. Turfmasters is pretty good too. The Metal Slugs are great.

I'm looking into getting a 4 slot Neo Geo Machine. What titles were popular?

Great decision. I think that EVERYONE should have a neo geo in their collection.
I have two Neo Geo 4 Slots in my garage. One Kiddie short Neo 19 and another V3 "tall boy"

For the kids:

Metal Slug 1
Puzzle Bobble
Blues Journey (kids have discovered this platformer)
Nightmare in the Dartk

For the Adults:

Metal Slug 3
Blazing Star
Mark of the Wolves
Shock Troopers 2

Seems to me that there are like 1/3+ of the games are fighters which I am not that much a fan of. I have friends that love the Neo Fighters so I collected a few for them. I have 6 different Metal Slug games and the first 4 were made by Nazca.

I have mess of other carts but I also think that Neo Bomberman, Crossed Swords, Nam 1975, The Super Spy, League Bowling, Thrash Rally are carts in my own rotation. Pulstar and Last Resort have eluded me for the collectable shooters on the system.

Neo Geo Multis

Get the 150 in 1 or what ever and a single slot PCB. Well worth the small investment. Metal Slug is great, Shock Troopers is excellent, Prehistoric Isle is cool, 19XX great shooter, World Heroes series for fighting, Nightmare in the dark, Irritating Maze. The list goes on. Its a cheap system with lots of great games.

I think only metal slug 1 was Nasca

Its common knowledge that even though they removed the nazca logo that they did up to MS3 including > which is a update/revision of MS2.

MS4 and on were mostly rehash of the art asssets with a few new elements added in. They were done by a different team.

Cool I never knew that.

I've not yet tried out any game on the Neo Geo system because I am not into the kind of games they put out for it, but did a lot of research so I'd have a couple of games that others may like.

As a result I picked up Metal Slug and Metal Slug X, as well as Puzzle Bobble. (I'll probably get rid of Fatal Fury 2, Samurai Showdown 2, and World Heroes 2).

All I need to do is sell the 1 slot and two 2 slots I have and get a 4 slot.

Right now I have Metal Slug 1 (great!), Aero Fighter 2 (hmmmm...enh), Rage of the Dragons (...neat) and Bust A Move (great x2) in the rotation. Until the other 4-slot is going, I stick to one slot for a shmup, one for a fighter, one for Bust-A-Move (wife's favorite NG game) and one wild card title (right now MS1). Metal Slug and Bust-A-Move are essentially the titles everyone can recommend. From there...it gets shaky and becomes very much a question of preference. The fighters, which is a huge chunk of the library, can be very hit or miss depending on your sensibilities...and given my history with this topic on KLOV, maybe I should just stop there. ;)

The multi-cart is a hard one to recommend to someone new to the library that wants to dig for gems and discover things on their own (which can be fun), just because there are soooo many hack versions on that thing. This is one of those times where I feel you should find some roms and go the emulator route to try stuff out.

In my cab right now...

Cyber Lip
Neo Turfmasters
Puzzle Bobble
Samurai Showdown 4

Out of the cab?
Metal Slug 1, 2, 4
Viewpoint
KOF '98
Samurai Showdown 2

Popular series on the NEO:

1. FATAL FURY
2. KING OF FIGHTERS;
3. SAMURAI SHOWDOWN; and
4. METAL SLUG.

I have an MV-2F (two slot board), and I play these games a lot (in no particular order):

1. STRIKERS 1954 PLUS,
2. KING OF FIGHTERS (any) (right now its 95, 96, and 97),
3. SAMURAI SHOWDOWN II and IV,
4. SHOCK TROOPERS I,
5. METAL SLUG (any) (right now it's X, 3, 4)
6. FATAL FURY SPECIAL
