whats more collectable or worth more. gauntlet I or II?

simple question. what, in your opinion, is more collectable or worth more. A gauntlet I machine or a gauntlet II?

gauntlet I because it was more iconic. If it wasn't a great game there likely would not have been a II. II is basically the same game with more levels.

gauntlet II is way more then just new/more levels. new monsters, new magic... there are a lot of things different. But I agree, G1 might be more valuble. I ask this question because I have both. and both have the G1/G2 hack. I am looking to get rid of one, but wonder which. Since they both play BOTH games, its all about the cabinet.

I'd rather own number 2. If I recall correctly, it allowed you to select any player from any spot.

it does. It sounds like both of his games are running both gauntlet I and II. I would think the only issue is which art do you like better? Or is more iconic.

control panel overlay is better on G1..

I would think G1 is worth maybe $100 more. If you don't care, then put both for sale. Price them based on condition of cabs and see what happens.

I've got a Gauntlet 2 board running in a Gauntlet 1 cab -- best of both worlds for me, great looking game and a nice attract mode and better gameplay.

Have owned both.

Gauntlet 2 is better because of the extra levels and (RGBY character selection)

Price wise they should sell for nearly the same thing. Anyone looking for a Gauntlet isnt probably going to care which one it is since they are so similar. 500-600 for a nice working one with complete side art. They all have burn in so thats never an issue.

I have heard Walter Day say that G1 is regarded as the last game made in the golden age of arcades. If that is true I would say 1 would have a little more value? It's deffinetley more iconic for me. I remember when it came out, there was nothing like it.

I think regardless of the version, both succumb to the reality that gameplay with one person playing is really super f'n BORING!

Yes and No.

Many of the games from the 80's that I LOVED, I have since owned. Including titles like DL, Marble Madness, Paperboy etc. Of all the games that I loved as a kid the only ones I kept are Gauntlet and 720. Rest dont have the staying power for me. Never get played.

(Not including Ms Pac and Centipede coz the wife plays those)

I've got both 1 and 2. G1 has the tall side art on both sides! My G2 doesn't have any side art. I like G2 a little more because you can choose to be any of the 4 characters from any j/s. and there's more to the levels right from the start compared to G1. I do like the CPO on G1 better!

I have a Gauntlet 1 two player and a Gauntlet II 4 player. What is more collectible? Gauntlet 1. What is more playable? Gauntlet II.

I still have guys pouring 8 to 10 hours playing Gauntlet II. As long as the pizza and beer hold up Laughs. I think I can get them to play longer if I have comfy chairs. Something else on the to do list.

I have GII, and while I love it, I think the character selection actually detracts from the game. The way I remember it from the arcade, everyone wanted to be the warrior, and someone was always "stuck" with the elf, and I think that's how it should be. Part of the strategy of the game was using each character's strengths, and playing with four warriors loses that.

The attract music is pretty good, though.

My brother always wanted Warrior or Wizard, but I usually chose Elf or Valkyrie (depending on which one he chose). If I'm playing by myself, I always go with Elf.
