I had two people approach me offering me a Space Odyssey. The first is only a half hour from me. I've yet to look at it but he says hes the only owner and it's been in his basement since '76. It's in "pristine" condition as he says. He also said he doesn't know what its worth so he randomly said $800 or make me an offer after you point out what's wrong with it.

The second guy is offering one in similar condition (one weak flipper however) for $500. But this one is a good 8 hour drive away.

What would you consider a good price for a mint Space Odyssey. (It's one of my personal "wanted machines")

wow !

that looks like a cool game
i stay away from EM's but that one might break my rule if i were to run into one

i dont count in terms of telling you what its worth
tend to stick to finding non working games for cheap or really good deals on working ones with problems

if the supposed nice one were mine, i would hope to sell it for 800, after picking it up for 200 and fixing it up

some games i wonder if they were given to me would it be worth it
and they still want a bunch of money for them. this doesnt seem to be one of those

go for it

I tend to do the same thing as you, buy them broken and dirty for cheap and fix them up. But this however, is one of the ones I wanted, and if I can talk him down to half that I'll pick it up, its a really nice game, one of the better EM's.

Space Adventures

Well I have one. Picked it up for a decent price with some backglass flaking. Big thing to watch for is the match unit. It is tied to the target lights on the top rollover targets. Mine was broken and took me forever to figure out why they were not lighting. Never did find a replacement had the broken one welded and made a spring. The rototarget is kind of fun though. First and only EM I have had and nice to look at. I wish you luck.

According to this site:

http://www.bostonpinball.biz/

look under the tab for Ebay Sales Summary: according to the disclamer, "This eBay sales summary has been collected from successful eBay pinball machine sales over the past 60 months (November 2010)."

The average for Space Odyssey is $381, in the past year, 8 have sold for an average of $345. Of course you have no idea what condition these were in, however it would be a good barganing tool for you when you look at these machines.

You should have called The Pinball Resource. They sell a new, improved version of the activator plate/lever that always breaks in those Williams match units. Part number is "Armature plate assembly #WLL-A7989"
There's a picture if you scroll about 2/3 of the way down this page:

And I think that you mean swinging target. Roto target is a Gottlieb thing.

I once purchased a Space Odyssey for $150. It was complete, but dirty, worn, and nonworking. I did a full shop-out on it and gave it to my father.

I also once purchased a Space Mission (same as Space Odyssey, but 4 player) for about $300. It was complete, nonworking, but in excellent cosmetic condition. I shopped it out and sold it for $750.

For reference, pics of that game are here:

That sounds about right, since all the asking prices on Mr Pinball's Classifieds are over-inflated by 200-300%.

I've been collecting/buying/selling games since 1987 and, with very few exceptions, a decent condition EM pin usually goes for $200 - $300.

It will also take a while to find a buyer because EMs don't get the love they deserve. Most people want all the SS/DMD bells and whistles.

That being said, everyone in Florida/Southern Georgia needs to sell me their single-player Williams EMs really, really cheaply. :) :)
