whats a lv2000 for a 6100

what is a lv2000 i just got into color vector and what is it i know its a low voltage power supply, is it worth it? how does it hook up? where do u place it? etc is it recomended for longer life?
 
I always use the LV6100 (similar unit only better) made by Mark Spaeth.

Some guys will tell you that only tempest needs it. They know more than me and that may be true. I put it in all of my color vectors. I assume at some point I may need to use this monitor from a different game to test with a tempest cab. You never know.

If you google lv2000 I believe you will find info on installation, etc.
 
The LV2000 or LV6100 replaces the original weak circuitry on the deflection board of a Wells Gardner K6100 monitor. Simply put, in the original configuration, High Voltage would overrun the low voltage blowing transistors, capacitors and fuses. The voltage is user set on the LV2000 and the LV6100 is preset. Back in the day, most operators would fix the monitor by just replacing the section on the deflection board. Once done, they would get another 3-6 months before the heat/voltage would do it again. This issue led to the development of the Amplifone monitor. Amplifone's had their own issues with HV coils.
 
I have installed both versions on my Tempest and Space Duel monitors. Very easy to install and it will better protect your monitor and keep it running longer. I would recomend installing ASAP.

3-6 months? More like 3-6 minutes. :)

The deflection transistors were $35(PNP) and $40(NPN) each back then. We would do everything we knew to do to try and keep those games from blowing up but they never lasted. This not only led to the development of the Amp but also led me to convert ALOT of Atari vectors to other games!
 
I install LV2000's on all vector monitors that I work on. We have an Atari Star Wars on location with a 6100 that I rebuilt and installed an LV2000 on back in December 2011. That monitor has been running 10 hours a day, 7 days a week since then and has only had 1 chassis transistor go bad. Not a bad track record! Now hopefully I didn't just jinx myself, heh.

We also have a Battlezone on location which I rebuilt the monitor on as well and that thing eats a chassis transistor or two about once every 2 months.

ok, guys i will install one thanks , where can i get said device cheap? also if any one has a gravitar i would apreciate it if they could measure the deflection voltages comming from the pcb yellow and orange wire going to monitor and set your meter to 5 volt scale dc and tell me the range cause i get 3 volts peak and i was told its supposed to be -.3 to.3 and im on the right scale, dont want to hurt my new monitor repaired by slackmoe

Is it STUCK at 3 volts or is it moving? Could be that whatever direction your testing has its size turned up too high on the game board.
