Either a Electro Mech or Solid state machine. Nothing born in the recent 15 years.

Well, not much to go on there...

For a SS - hard to go wrong with Firepower - classic, old enough for you, and plenty of them around so they're relatively cheap and easy to get parts for. Never tire of playing mine.

For an EM with multiball, I've always liked Nip-It - easier to find/cheaper than Fireball, and more of them made. There's also 4 Million BC, but I'd prefer Nip-It over it for the same reasons, and I think it plays better personally.

I think Firepower is a great game, but if you're primarily looking for the multiball experience it's not the best choice. Hard as hell to get multiball on that machine sometimes. For that era, Black Knight has much more going on with its multiball and is also fairly widely available.

Space Shuttle is another good one. Pinbot. High Speed. F-14. You really can't go wrong with any of the System 11 machines.

I about died playing the Ark multiball on Stern's IJ the first time I got it... I can only imagine someone dropping a loaf in their pants the first time they get 13-balls on A13 if they're not expecting it, lol. Hopefully I'll get that chance at some point..I've never played it, but it looks awesome.

I'll say that for the bang for the buck, multiball on Shuttle is way more fun than Pinbot's IMO...it's the 3 ball vs. 2 ball thing IMO. Keep in mind that my Shuttle has a worn playfield that affects ball travel, and neither machine is leveled correctly, lol. I dunno. I just find the shot more satisfying with the rolling jackpot value than Pinbot's lock/lock/lock/ramp/lock/ramp deal. I love Pinbot, but just based on multi alone? I'd pick Shuttle over it anyday.

*edit* I totally don't get the love for Firepower. I've played it on the PS3 a lot, and it just feels like it's an extremely basic and kind of slow-going pin to me....I've gotta track down a real one and give it an honest chance, but....meh. It will only be out of curiosity's sake to compare to the emulator version. I don't feel like it's something that will convert my opinion of it. =\

I haven't played Firepower since it was new on the scene way back in the day. I do remember it being a kick in the pants. I remember the same with Black Knight, but haven't played any of these games since they first came out.
I love multiball on High Speed, it's a rush to pay attention and hit the ramp for the bonus points, then I love it when the machine spazzes out!!!

The Indiana Jones I haven't played but once at an Expo, and didn't get to play it enough to experience it...YET...

If you want an early SS with a multiball that's challenging to get, try Black Hole.

Space Shuttle is definitely a multiball powerhouse. Fairly easy to lock two balls, potential to steal multiball in multiplayer, etc. That said, I think that it's going to be hard to find a Space Shuttle due to the CPR repro that recently came out. Taxi and pinbot are also good multiballs, although I'd rate Taxi better jus because pinbot is such a PITA sometimes. I've not played Sorcerer, so I can't rate that.

Oh, and Firepower is LAME.

A dirty, worn out, dried up Firepower that needs a flipper rebuild is an absolute dog of a machine. Unfortunately, that's most of them these days.

Get it all cleaned up, waxed, fresh rubbers and rebuild the flippers and get it running as fast as it should be, and it's a totally different machine. Particularly if you have a lot of spring to the standups. I can only imagine how fast the ones with the new CPR playfields will be.

THIS. Man my FP is so fast I can't even see the ball sometimes. I spent all kinds of time cleaning / waxing the PF, rebuilding flippers, new rubber. When I played it I was MAD MAD MAD. Every time I hit the ball it was like 10 billion miles an hour and it either outlaned or SDTM on me at lightning speed.

Nowadays, I've really refined my ball control and I have practiced where to place my shots. Getting multiball for me is still only about a 1 in 10 affair. I still can't religiously ramp up the multiplier and THEN go for multi. I'm just not good enough yet.

But I'm telling you - those targets are MEAN sometimes. You smack one the wrong way and that ball ricochets back at you and drains at LIGHT SPEEED.

I can play my Pinbot drunk as hell and lock up multiball all the time. Firepower, no way. If I'm tired, buzzed, even slightly distracted, that game OWNS me.

Still, I can't tear myself away. Someday I WILL roll the score on that thing.

Shuttle had very high production numbers and there are less than 150 repro playfields out there from what I can tell. It may be harder to find a good deal on a minty one with those out there but still a ton of machines to go around. :)

I wouldnt wait too long though. Once Pinball Inc gets off their asses and releases repro ramp assembly and shuttle toy....gonna be super easy to make a bad game look very nice as long as the playfield is in reasonable condition...and you know the ebay/cl people will pay 200$ for a ramp then charge 700$ more for the machine.
