Hey-
I guess all of the multi boards I've seen are set up for Vertical oriented monitors. What would be a good horizontal multi-board?

I've got a Jamma Marvel Vs Capcom that somebody is interested in. I wanted to be able to offer a multigame for him though. I see the 19-in-1 multi, but the games are a little questionable- Defender and Stargate are great, but with a joystick and 3 buttons? I don't know. The other games in the pack are kind of ho-hum.

I thought I had seen a multi-Capcom fighter board, but don't see it right off now.

Any suggestions (other than improving my search...)

definetely blue elf 2 for cheap and fighters games mostly
or else you can go to a XXXX in1 which is more expensive, but has games for every taste

I just finished installing one of Nixs' 1309 (I think?) in 1's. Works fine, no real complaints. It's like MAME without the config hassle.

Pretty happy with my 1940-in-1, it has everything from classic to somewhat new games. Of course, my version of new maybe a decade ago or more :) It has all of your Pac Man's, Donkey Kongs, ect. and also includes a ton of Street Fighters, Kings of Fighting, Killer Instinct 1 & 2, Capcom vs. Marvel, and so on. Oh, and it has just about if not every Dual Vs. Nintendo game available. Which I loved since I had to sell my Red Tent about a month ago.

Anything meant for vertical monitors is somewhat stretched out, but still playable, like your Pac Man's and such. It won't be the same as owning the actual dedicated game itself, but I've been pretty happy with it so far. It has 3 and 4 player control options, though you'd have to wire a second harness for those as it was intended to link two seperate 2 player cabs together. But for 1 or 2 player games, it's an easy set up. If you get one of the XXXX-in-1 boards you'll need a second power supply to run it. You use the cab's ps to run one board and the new ps to run the other. It's two boards stacked on one another. If you go that route, and have any questions, PM me.

Blue Elf 2 is terrible. Neo Geo and CPS2 seemed to run okay. CPS1, CPS3 and a bunch of other games were hit or miss. A lot of hacks and some games didn't even load or play. Fast and easy solution for a multiboard, but it's basically a poor MAME setup for JAMMA.

I've heard good things about the CPS1 and CPS2 multiboards, but they cost an arm and a leg and the game selection is questionable.

Multi-Taito has a decent selection but again, the board costs an arm and a leg.

I've never tried the red boxes, but from what I heard they are just computer boxes running MAME on a frontend. That's easier than doing all the Jpac stuff I guess. So I guess I don't have any good suggestions for you. MAME running Hyperspin is what I do for a horizontal multi.

overall yes, mame is the best of the best

second solution is the xxxx in 1 but its for those who are absolutely noobs with pc and mame, for one person who knows how to mess with a common pc and mame, its too expensive

blue elf is not that bad that others say and its cheap but its mostly for 2d fighters-beat m ups and some shoot em ups

there is another nice solution, having and old xbox with mame emulator and jamma connector

Does the Redbox have 3-4 player connections?

I believe it has the hookup for player 3 and 4 although I have it installed in a 2-player cab so I've never needed the extra hookups. Nixs would know for sure. I LOVE the Redbox... it really is just Mame setup to plug-and-play with a modified Jamma harness but I'm not huge on wanting to put together Mame myself so it was perfect for me. The only harness modification is that buttons 4, 5 & 6 are all on the main harness so I just had to wire in a few extra wires on the harness that was in the cab. Took all of 15 minutes to do. Honestly, the thing that sold this one for me over any of the other multi options was the fact that every review I had seen of it was good and that it had Battletoads (which many other multi's did not).

After reading that, I had to go check. Yep, the 1940-in-1 has it as well :)

Yep... the 1xxx in 1 would have been my other choice but at the time I was looking to pick something up it was like $200ish for the Redbox/Gamebox vs. like $450+ for the 1xxx in 1. The only upside for me would have been having NBA Jam on the 1xxx multi which the Redbox doesn't have... otherwise, I already have 450 games of which I maybe care about less than 100 and at this point have probably only played less than 50 of those. I don't really need 17 different versions of the King of Fighters series much less a few dozen on the bigger multis. :)
