What's a decent stock of parts

My brother works on medical equipment and they dont repair anything anymore due to liability. The most he does now is board swapping, anything more than that and it goes back to the factory. Sure the stuff is servicable if you have the right equipment but in most cases its cheaper to have chinaman make you a new one.

Is electrical engineering as an educational path / degree in decline? After all, someone must be designing all these devices.

It is, but the issue is that so much of the discrete electronics now have been replaced with programmable parts that can mimic the functionality of large numbers of formerly replacable parts. Look at the JROK card vs the equivalent 4 Williams large scale boards. I can fix the Williams boards (sometimes not easily) but if a JROK card goes bad, I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

a chip socket is what the sim card in your cell phone goes into according to the latest Radio Shack trainee guide

Dokert, now you're just making up shit about the Radio Shack folks.

Everybody knows there isn't any fucking TRAINEE GUIDE!!! What are you talking about???

Indian Casinos here in the U.S. have determined that it is cheaper and more cost effective to replace a $700 touch screen monitor, rather than repair it for $50 in parts and $50 in labor. Dumpster diving at the reservation can be very rewarding for some people.

Wish I knew this last year while I was staying at a certain North Eastern resort that rhymes with Boxwoods...

Funny story...I got there like 11:30pm...I had a regular room booked but apparently it was taken, so I ended up getting the luxury suite pretty high up, and had to make a couple trips back and forth to bring in my crap from the car.

As I was walking out I notice one woman in an empty area playing video poker. Literally she was the only one within 50 feet of anyone else in an completely deserted section. This is almost midnight on a Wed I think.

As I came back in...they were taking her picture holding the big check...she won the progressive for 100k I think!
