For $775 and a 6-hour round-trip, I could have this Stargate.

From the seller: "Game is working and has new rubbers installed. Cabinet is decent as well as the playfield. The ropelight needs to be replaced and the shooter rod handle is broken. Underside of playfield and inside of cab is really dirty. Inner glass has some delamination but is not noticeable from the front. This is a players game and not a collector piece."

I really like my stargate pin and paid $1300 in a bit better shape. Some work and that could be a nice machine. The rope lighting isn't bad to replace, air compressor to clean out a lot of the dust and you'd have a decent machine!

Just not so sure about the 6 hour drive. If you can fit it in the vehicle as opposed to a trailer, I'd go for it.

the six hour trip is nothing compared to the time your gonna spend restoring her.

Hehe. You're most likely right about that. Things look really rough underneath the playfield.

I just don't know about this machine...

I really wish it were closer so I could just check it out in-person.

I say pass. What's with all the rusted out parts underneath the playfield? All the solenoid springs, screwheads, brackets, etc. look rusted.

That thing is craptastic. Even if it were free It is not worth the 6 hour drive.

I would not buy this machine. The underneath side of the playfield is horrible. It looks like it is covered in mildew, due to being stored in a very humid or damp room. The rust on the assemblies can cause all kinds of headaches- they need to be clean and able to move freely. I'd also wonder about the entire condition of the machine- all the switches, fuse holders, and the pins on every connector, they might also need to be cleaned or replaced. You would have to spend alot of time going through this. Stargate is not that hard to find, and to drive 6 hours for this one is not worth it, in my opinion.

I would say pass unless he comes down on price, the underneath side needs alot of attention, more than an air compressor will take care of.

Or perhaps in the hold of a cargo ship for the lengthy voyage back from Argentina. Even with a U.S. coin door, that thing looks like it was out on the high seas for a loooong time.

Well, I can get the machine for $725. However, looking at high-res pics of the playfield's underside doesn't inspire much confidence:

It's working 100% right now (except for the dead rope light and broken shooter rod handle), but I wonder how many issues will crop up due to all that rust and moisture exposure?

It might be better if this machine went to someone whose a little more "pro" at restoration (and has more resources) than myself.

If you have a tumbeler and time a lot of those parts can be cleaned up. I wouldn't give over $300for it because of the amount of time involved to restore it. I have seen much worse turned into beauties! A lot of the top parts look like they would have to be helped also plus the wear in front of the pyramid doesn't help the situation. Bet it has wear spots elsewhere.

I do not like Stargate at all, at any price. But I'm apparently in the minority, so feel free to ignore my opinion.
