What would you do with this poor sad Star Wars?

OK here is my delima. I purchased this Star Wars upright along with another one as a pair. My intention was to restore them and keep one. I have one looking pretty nice now and it is in my game room. The second one is still sits the same as it was except for some cleaning.

The good: It works. It only needed a HV unit for the monitor, which I purchased.

The bad: The cabinet is in really bad shape. The rats or mice were living in it and corroded the PCB cage pretty bad. Doesn't look like they liked the wiring though, it is all fine. The coin door panel has bad water damage and needs to be replaced. The floor is shot and one side is in really bad shape at the bottom. I think it would need a new cabinet to ever think of coming inside someone's house. (OK for the garage) Side art needs to be replaced.

I would like to just sell it and get it of the way since I'm tight on space, but don't think I could get any where close to what just the main parts are worth by their self. I figure the monitor 6100 is worth about $200, working PCB $300, Yoke $150.

I hate myself for thinking about it that way, but building a new cabinet and buying new art just seems to be for not if I'm just going to sell it.

Thoughts.......

I'll put some pictures up later.

Thanks,
Joe

I've had the same feeling when I've parted out old Honda motorcycles. But then I realize that sometimes one must die so that multiple others may live.

If you end up parting it, there are several things I would be interested in... just send me a PM if you go that route. Add a little tuck-n-roll to what is left of the cab and you have a great chair!

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a project using a new cabinet, if someone is close enough to DPWitz and wants to buy repro art.

Still never copied an upright. Don't have one.

Someone on these boards would gladly give you $650 for that whole machine and take on the project of replacing the cab if it's that bad....or they would just throw it in their garcade and call it good and play the heck out it.

If someone on here wants it for $650, they can come get it.

Here are some pictures of it. They are several months old, but like I said, it is unchanged just been sitting there. It does have a nice layer of sawdust on it now that I need to clean off. :)

The one on the left.

That is surely a candidate for a part-out IMHO. Saving that beast would be more work than it's worth.

It's in the same shape as my Quantum. Really, too swollen for any amount of blood, sweat, and Bondo. Part it out or swap the parts into a new cabinet.. If I found it like that, I'd build a new cabinet for it. Hopefully someone can keep it together..there are enough parts floating around out there. Not judging, just saying..

I agree with you. I am pretty anti part out and can't really bring myself to do it. If it was missing parts that would be different. I guess if I can sell it for close to what the 3 main parts are worth, I'll sell it. Otherwise I guess I will put it in a new cab.

......I've also been toying with the idea of building a new cockpit cab and putting everything in that. I think that would be cool. Anyone know where I can find a cockpit control panel?

More pictures. I noticed when I moved it one of the sides is starting to pull away from the front panel. Err..

If you were local, I would give you $600 cash for it tonight!! I think you would have no trouble getting $500 - $650 for this machine since it's all working your just charging what the part's are worth and giving away the cabinet. Someone is going to get a score of a restore!!

Unless you're an absolute perfectionist (like many on this board) you can swap an upright control panel on to a cockpit pretty easily. The cockpit one is only slightly larger than the upright underneath where its not really visible. I swapped mine awhile back and nobody was the wiser. Only nerds intimately familiar with it (like us) might notice. ;-)

chalk me up for another "i wish you were closer" post.....i'd throw $500-600 at you right now and bolt.
