Someone offered to buy my Bad Dudes. (Not a KLOV member) but on the phone they said they want it so they can convert it to a multicade. Thankfully it was too far for him to come get. I probably would of sold it cause as long as someone has the money it's theirs to do with as they please but I was so tempted to tell him that I wouldn't sell it to him. I don't mind multicades or mames as long as you use a dead machine to start with. It bothers me to think someone is willing to destroy a perfectly good working machine just to throw a multi board into it. Would it be wrong of me to tell someone that I wouldn't sell it to them if they were just going to butcher it?

Surprised he even told you that. Some people. ugh.

Even a game like Baddudes (which is sort of a kit in those Data East cabs) doesn't deserve to be robbed of life like that. I think I would have told him to blow, but in all honesty, he'll just have a friend call you the next day to buy it, if he knows you won't sell it to him.

On the other hand, if someone is going to give you your asking price, and you want the money, how do we not know all buyers won't do the same?

Gozer pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly...

I probably wouldn't let it go, though; even the worst of my cabs deserves better than that I feel.

Multicades are cool and all; I just wish people would by cabinets that can't be repaired/put back to original/used as a respectable conversion. Aren't there such a thing as Dynamo cabs that are generic, usable for this, and weren't something else before?

IMO - For the continued life of our hobby, asking a buyer if they are going to convert a working game should be every KLOVers responsibility. Boards, marquees, control panels, etc... all getting thrown out for a quick profit.

I would have a hard time selling a perfectly fine working game to someone I know is going to destroy it. I am sure I have done it before and simply not known, but to know would bug me. I guess if I was desperate enough and there were no other buyers I would still do it. I dislike MAME and parting out cabinets. For dead games it's one thing, but with a perfectly working game, it is another.

I haven't sold to any random person on CL yet as I've only sold/parted one game, but it would be preferable to know who I'm selling to and what's going to happen with the game/parts.

For instance, when I sold my DK3, I sold parts to KLOVers that needed them to restore their DK3s. So in essence, I parted 1 DK3 to restore 2 DK3s (Gregatron's and Flynn54321's). I guess it made it easier to know DK3 was only a conversion kit, but still. It wasn't like someone took a perfectly good game, scrapped the kit and converted it to a multicade. I ended up using the cabinet for my DK Jr. as well so that's another game that was saved.

If money is the thing that you need the most, then I guess you can't let that stop you from making a sale. However, hopefully you're in a position where there are enough local KLOVers or friends to help you out who want what you have to sell. Although I needed the money at the time, I was fortunate to sell to some reputable KLOVers before having to go the CL/eBay route.

It's a Bad Dudes. Jamma. Perfect candidate for a Multicade. I'd be worried if they were doing this to a working Space Invaders or a working Tempest, but Bad Dudes? Now you're just being silly.

It is famous for being in the movie Parenthood by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. :)

If he's just gonna rip the guts out, AND he met my asking price, then I'd have sold it, but kept the boards.

I agree with what's already been said. Personally I don't care for Bad Dudes, but I also don't care to see any "dedicated" cabinets turned into multgames (a generic dynamo would be a different story). Not everyone grew up on the early 80's games and to some people, myself included, many 90's JAMMA games are classics too.

I have a Bad Dudes, when I got it, it was a Neo Geo. Long ago I changed it back to Bad Dudes, i'm keeping it that way. I've never sell a dedicated game to someone if they are just going to ruin it.

K I have to throw my two cents in here although being the new guy Im not sure that its worth anything!
I was brought into this hobby because Im looking for a multicade. There I said it! I havent found a suitable candidate yet but have been wrestling with the same thoughts... I HAVE passed on buying ceartain cabinets just because I just dont have the heart to bastardize a working game, but the multicade does serve a very important purpose (IMHO) I just simply dont have the room for alot of dedicated cabs, so I opted to get the 120in1 for my neo geo and as soon as I can find a good donor I intend to further my love of classic games by getting as many as I can, (more=better) but until I can afford an awseome house with a GIANT gameroom Im pretty limited!

Hail Phet!

Like he stated, it's a Bad Dudes. That is all.

Since it was a Bad Dudes I'd sell it to the guy even if he told me that he was going to set it on fire to cook dinner on.

I personally dont care what people do with the games after they leave my house.
