Picked up this Golden Tee cabinet the other day and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I will probably play it for a while but not hold on to it for very long.

The cabinet is a dedicated Mortal Kombat 2 that has been painted over. I can see the outlines of the screened side art under the paint and think the black would come off pretty easy. The cabinet is in pretty good condition. The problem is the Golden Tee board that is in there is not working. It has one blinking LED and one solid LED on the board with no picture or sound.

So do I get a new GT pcb, or strip the paint and get a MK2 board? The de-conversion to MK2 is risky because the quality of the side art is unknown. I would also have to get new joysticks, buttons, marquee, CPO, and cut a new wood control panel.

What do you think would be easier to trade or sell when the time comes? Like I said I like both games but don't see it being a keeper.

For me personally, I'd keep it a Golden Tee.

I love both games too, but with small kids Golden Tee is better for my lineup right now. Ive actually had a GT in that style Midway cab before, and its fine play wise. GT is the ultimate drink with your buddies and gamble game too (along with Warlords) so its a great game to have around. That, and chicks dig it. Seriously, I had more female friends love playing GT than I ever thought possible.

Oh, and you have a sweet looking conversion there. If it were super fugly, I'd say bail on it. That one looks nice IMO.

My thoughts exactly

Midway uni cabs are a dime a dozen. I can't tell you how many I've gutted in the last 3 weeks. If its clean as its, keep it! Op favorites, these cabs were built well and last a long time.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. That is what I was leaning towards, keeping it a golden tee. Some of the most fun is restoring these games and just knowing what is under the black paint was tempting me. That and all the MK2 boards for sale that just popped up.

If anyone has a GT 2005 board they want to sell, let me know. If I can't find a red board, the only difference in the green one is to change out the power supply to a switcher correct?

Wow. When I clicked on this thread I thought there would be tons of responses to convert it back.

So let me be the first:

I, Mitsurugi-w, would convert it back to Mortal Kombat II.

I will admit that it is a very clean conversion. Don't care for GT at all, though.

I dont like GT but i do like MK2 but not enuf to convert it back and you said you didnt think it was a keeper,so with that said if i were you i would pick up a GT board and get it running then sell it.

I second this. Golden Tee is okay, but it's no dedicated MK2. :)

Honestly... if you are worried about the condition of the sideart then I say let that be the deciding vote. Strip the paint, inspect the artwork, and if the artwork is crappy you can always paint it black again. Not like black is hard to come by.

100% agree. As much as I love MKII over GT I think I'd personally just keep it a GT. But it would be worth checking the condition of the side art just in case =)

That is a good looking conversion! I would keep it as is, even if it was mine and I don't even have a dedicated MKII yet. Can't say I really want one either.

It looks good, so if you plan to keep it - then leave it as is.

However, it will sell faster as a MKII than a GT05, but the cost of reconverting won't make it worth your while...

Got it up and running as a Golden Tee again thanks to MtZRcade for the new board. Great seller.

Now what to do with the old pcb? Anyone fix these or is it worth anything?
