Alright, so I've decided to to keep the Pac Man cabinet I received in my 14-cab haul. One side is in 8.5-9/10 condition... it cleans up nicely... the other side was exposed to the sun evidently as it's closer to 5/10 or so with some paint flaking off.

I plan on replacing the T-Molding and restoring the control panel and coin door.

Would you:

(A) Position the game with the crappy side toward a wall/cabinet and be done with it leaving the art stock.

(B) Screw it... strip it down, sand, repaint and restencil that bad-boy.

Depends, my personal collection is all mint, so I would choose B, however if my collection was a bit less mint, I would choose A and enjoy the game.

If you plan on keeping it long term I'd perosnally restore it. Otherwise shit side in and call it a day.

Show us pics of the "bad side". Are Pac stencils still readily available?

Alright... this pic makes it look a little better than it is... but you can still see the flaking. Now, I went out and looked at it again, and I'd probably go with 6.5/10 or so on the bad side not 5/10.

I circled the biggest problem area...

Thats actually not that bad. Many would say leave it original, and show the good side at the end of a row. Its up to you man. How much $$$ do you want to put into this thing? Stencils aren't cheap, yeah?

Yea i would probably just little by little touch up the stencil work and be done with it. It looks great IMO for your collection considering you've hacked every board on every one of your machines. :D

Seriously though I probably wouldnt touch that and im the type that if i placed a game in my arcade it has to be fully restored. Just touch it up best u can and be done with it.

As many Pacs as you've had through there, why is this one the keeper? Do you prefer the Pac to the Ms. Pac cab?

If you keep it, you should just tidy up the sides the best you can to stop further flaking and give it a restored control panel with overlay and a nice bezel, a proper marquee - then call it a day.

Well, I've only been through this cab and a Ms. Pac cab.... the Jr. Pac cab was missing the PCB. The Ms. Pac sold so thing one gets a Doyle kit and is a keeper. Pac games with a proper stick is HUGE...

...and I'd rather keep the proper hardware with a multi-kit than the 48-in-1 that's in the Jr. Pac.

don't you have like 3-4 cabs that can play pac games already? I would be tempted to sell some of the multi's for more money and keep the dedicated cabs. Seems like you have space for a nice collection of dedicated cabs

Trust me... there is a method to my madness.

Lets see:

Double Donkey Kong Multi...running an arcadeshop board. It plays DK, DKJr, DK3, and D2K PERFECTLY with a Nintendo stick. It plays other 4-way and 2-way games, but not authentically.

Multipede...also running an arcadeshop boards. It plays Centipede, Millipede Missile Command Grid Lee, and Crystal Castles just about spot on... sure, the TB is only 2.25", so lets say Centipede is played perfectly the others almost so. I also can play 8-way games on the cab (albeit not arcade authentic).

Williams Multigame - Plays Robotron, Joust, Bubbles, Splat!, Defender and Stargate perfectly... well, almost perfectly for Defender and stargate since the stick is a bit different than stock. It uses 4" Wicos.

Pac Plus - 96-in-1... it will play all the Pac games perfectly.... pengo should play nicely with the stock stick as well.

See... each of my multigames has a core "authentic" game group that it plays as well as others. I have room for a total of 12 cabs in my gameroom... Why not populate much of that with cabs that will play multiple games authentically?

Sure, I can play Ms. Pac on the DDK cabinet...but the Nintendo stick sucks for Ms. Pac... almost as much as Donkey Kong sucks with a non-Nintendo leaf-switch stick.

As for dedicated cabs... I do have:

Star Wars (though it too is Multied! haha... with ESB).
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Tempest (doh...also multied with Tempest Tubes)
Asteroids
Race Drivin'
Paperboy / Championship Sprint (have both kits for the same cab and if there was a way I could multi this bitch, i'd do it too!)

I'd just call it a day and be done with it.

I'm one who likes to restore my cabs to mint, but I think I would even leave this one alone. Touch up the bad side and put it in line. (but no one would shoot you for restoring it if you want to)

If you really want to restore to mint, see if you can find someone with a pac-cab in worse condition. Trade to him/her plus a little cash from them and you can restore the new one.

Touch up the black that's flaking and "call it a day" then have a beer. :D
