What would you consider "Grail(s)"

It seems that there are two working definitions of 'grail' out there. Some use the 'white whale' definition that I favor--hard to find games that don't pop up often. Others consider whatever game they are looking for next their grail. Of course, one person's grail is not necessarily another person's.

Apart from the SW cockpit, here are some more:

Discs of Tron (Environmental)
Missile Command Cockpit
Dedicated Major Havoc

i think of a grail as the game that a person has always wanted...maybe one they played the poop out of as a kid and only dreamed about one day owning.

for me, the main one is a SW cockpit (but i'd take an upright in a heartbeat).

Agreed completely.

Anything that can be bought without too much trouble isn't a grail. It's something you want. For example, anyone can buy SW Cockpit right now on ebay.

IMO, the question to determine if something is a grail is:

Would you pass on the game for any reason if it were available?

If the answer is 'No', then it's a grail. If the answer is "it's too far away/too expensive/can't get a truck/etc" then it isn't.

My grail is Fantasy Zone 2. The last one I had a lead on is now in China somewhere...(and that was like 5 years ago).

And if you PM RLEVIN on here, you can probably get him to come down on that price. That's his retailer bait the rich customer price. :)

I have no video game grail. I just wanted to someday own a video game - ANY video game. My grail has fulfilled many times over now.

I do have a grail pinball or two though.

Right now, a grail for me would be 'space'! I need more of it and I need less of these games taking what I have up. Yeah, space is a grail for me (someday I'll have it too, I swear).

I'd say dig-dug for me personally...I love that game. But any cabs are pretty hard to get around here.

It's totally subjective how you define it I think. Some people have multiple, sometimes it changes to the current wanted game, sometimes its just one.

For me, a grail is only one game; that single game that you want(ed) most for your collection. Again, only my opinion, but rarity has nothing to do with it. My grail was of course 720. Now that I have it (2 actually) it's still my grail.

I agree. A grail is not something that is a matter of spending the money on it is something that is dear to your heart and wanted for a long time. A grail does not switch acording to what game you want next. Mine is Looping. I have 2 now also.

+1. There can be only one Grail! And has nothing to do with value. A buddy of mine really wants a Galaga more than any other game, and those are about as common as it gets.

"Grail" is not necessarily "Very expensive or hard to find game." Most of those we didn't even play in the arcades or hadn't hear of until surfing collector websites. Those are called "Expensive collector game" not "Grail".

Though I've noticed that on here, "Grail" usually just means "the latest game on my list". I've had a top 10 "most wanted" list since getting into this hobby, but I don't call them grails.

Major Havoc is mine. Dedicated or not, I'd love to have one.

Like others have said, I consider a grail to be the game you want most for your collection.
