What type of monitor to use?

I'm building a Galaga cabaret and using an old Nintendo nes as the board and system.

I need a monitor though. I have a Sanyo 13 inch TV but I would have to figure out how to flip the picture and right now, when I tilt it backwards, the color turns orange. So unless I can flip the pic and adjust the colors when tilted, I don't think this will work.

So I am looking at CRT monitors. But can the pic be flipped on these? I think I would need to change the yoke in order to do this. No?

Of course there is always an LCD, but I would have to make sure the old Nintendo would connect to it.

Can someone guide me that's done this before I start buying stuff and discovering I cannot use something.

Thanks,

Why do you need to flip the picture? I don't understand.

And if you turn the TV on from cold (i.e. off for 1/2 hr) in the tilted position, it'll be fine. It just needs to be degaussed in the position it'll be used in.

Well the original bezel and glass I have for a Galaga cab fits the Sanyo TV when the tube is rotated. So picture the TV sitting normally, I need to rotate it 90 degree, put it on its side. Heres a pic of how I want the TV to be installed.

And OK, I did think about degaussing it too, to get the colors in line.

I would rather use the Sayno TV since its paid for. The model is a DS13320.

You can't do that. You need to have the TV in the horizontal position. The Nintendo version of Galaga is a horizontal game, just like every other NES game. Even if you were to rotate the yoke, the picture wouldn't fit on the screen because the tube is wider than it is tall. And, even if you were to somehow adjust it to work, the top and the bottom of the screen would be black. You'd be better off just using a smaller TV :D

If you want a vertical version of Galaga, you'll have to go with either a real Galaga PCB, or one of those bootleg multiboards.

Damn! And now that you mention it, I do remember reading its a horizontal game, hence why the score is on the right side of the screen instead of the top, like a normal Galaga.

Well, it still looks like I'll be using the Sanyo.

I got a 'lot' of parts off ebay from a Galaga Cabaret that was taken apart. I got everything but the cabinet! The boards were sold as not working. The power supplies look to be shot as I'm only getting 34v out of the 115v lug and no 12v on the 12v lug, plus I have no monitor for it. So I would have to get all those parts, when I have an old Nintendo and this Sanyo for free. Plus my plan is to build an entirely new machine, since I only have room for one more in the arcade! : )

It's a home console game. All home console games are going to be horizontal. You can't expect people to turn their TV sets on their sides...
