This came out of a non working MK2, single board stack v3.1, chip UG22. What type of chip is this, who makes it and what profile do I use to write to it. Any info would be much appreciated because I have found absolutely nothing to help me out.

Also could this be replaced by a 27C040-10 EPROM? I have another 2 board stack and the UG22 is this type of chip.

Chip writing is:
MORTAL KOMBAT II
9404
MIDWAY MFG CO
UG22 VIDEO
5341-13941-10

eprom

You should be able to read it and then copy to a eprom but not write to it as it is a prom and not a eprom. I would have guessed that it was a 1- 2 meg prom for that year without researching and maybe a 4 meg at the largest guess. If you use a 4 meg and it is a 2 meg you should not have any problems.

All MK II eproms are 4M BITS eproms (ie. 512Kbytes )

Many factory boards had the mask roms (.ie. not reprogrammable ).

These can all be replaced by common 27c040 or 27c4001 eproms
(... I do it ALL the time... )

I just tried to write ug22.bin to a 27c4001 and was presented with the error that "The 1MBytes/8Mbits does not fit completely on the chip 512Kbytes / 4MBits and that the remaining information would not be written.

I am using a Batronix BG40 and also have a BPMicrosystems EP-1140. Is there a special setting I need to use to get it to fit?

Sorry, I should've been more clear...

There are actually two types of MKII boards...

One which has 8Mbit ( 1Mbyte ) eproms,
and one that has 4Mbit eproms.

Because you need twice as many 4Mb eproms,
the the board with the 4Mb eprom actually has
a secondary daughter card to hold the extra chips.

So if you have the single board version, you need 8Mbit eproms,
with the 8Mbit files ( 1Mbyte).

If you have the dual-board, you need the 4Mb eproms.

It seems like you have the single board, so you need 8M eprom (27c080 or 27c801)

I'll try to include pics tomorrow.

Cheers,
Steph

Yes, you are correct. This is a single board version. I also have a 2 board version and saw that it had 4Mb eproms and wondered how they fit more info on a smaller chip? Then I thought that must be were the extra ROMS come into play because the single board has no chip at UG23 and the 2 board version does.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
