Working on a UMK3, what kind of chip is at U34?

It's a Texas Instrument brand chip labeled 63AL14K F374. A lot of the lines are connected to the CMOS RAM, I'm guessing it is the same as an LS74?

Don't know anything about UMK3, but regarding the IC...

Not exactly. The F series is faster than the LS series. Often less than half the propogation delay as an LS version.

As far as '374 vs '74... they are certainly not the same. One is 14-pin, the other 20-pin.

So it's an F series 374?

I'll see if I can get a pic up.

That's what I'm guessing. Markings are often abbreviated on surface mount ICs (which I'm also guessing it is).

A pic would probably help a lot.

It's 20 pins, which supports my theory that it's a surface mount 74F374...

Yes, that's what it is... a 74F374. You should replace it with the same type, but to do that you MUST go out and buy a metric caliper so you can measure it and compare it to the dimensions listed in the various data sheets for each manufacturer.

There are several different sizes of those surface mount chips and if you don't, you'll most likely end up with the wrong chip.
