What type of cabinet is this?

Agreed, it's the original Mortal Kombat. The front has been painted black but you can see the original artwork in a big scratch on the right.

Also, some info having done tech work for them: Namco Cybertainment, the amusement operations division, clearly did this Tekken Tag conversion (just look at the control panel overlay with their "Amusement to Entertainment" phrase). They would have cut fresh wood and drilled button holes only for the recommended Tekken Tag layout. You shouldn't have too much grief finding a real MK panel if you want to go that route. Tons of simple Jamma-compatible games can be installed in this cabinet. The mini-harness that drives the extra buttons will require adapting, however.

So what would you say the value you is?
 
I wouldn't feel bad paying something between $200 and $300 for that if it was a machine I wanted.

However if I wanted a Mortal Kombat then I would wait for one to show up as that would be cheaper than trying to pull the deconversion.
