I'm just going to throw this question out there, since you all know a lot more about
arcades then I do. I have a CPS2 X-Men COTA: http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/vipe155/349877.jpg

It is complete, in the original cab with a couple of issues.

1. Missing a small graphics piece on one side
2. The monitor will need a cap kit eventually

Even so, I can't get a decent offer for the game. The best I have right now is in the ~$100 area. I'm not looking to get rich with this, but I expected something around maybe double that. Is there something I'm missing here? Is this an undesirable game that I have?

If not, any ideas on how I can get a little more value out of it? Part it out possibly? It's just too big for me to keep.

Hard to tell from that picture just how bad the monitor is...... but fixing the monitor might make all the difference in value from a buyers perspective.

The monitor just has a couple of black lines on the far left side. It's just noticeable when a game is on. Even so, I haven't had anyone physically look at the game and see that anyway. Both offers have been sight unseen, with one guy only wanting the whole thing for parts. I've had this game listed for over a month on Ebay, Craiglist, etc.

i have seen that in ebay and cl in kc

your better off pulling the board and selling that seprate on ebay

you can get around 80 -120 for the board
then as for the monitor good luck selling it localy i just bought 2 for 25$ each local that just needed 1 cap replaced (wavy lines) you can try and sell the monitor on ebay but good luck with shipping

as for that cab id either get a mamer to buy it for 40-50$ or just sledge it and put it out of its misery

the main problem is that cab is freaking ugly im not even shure what it would have been originaly
the average buyer (thats not an arcade junkie) wont want somthing that fugly
and i have learned paint it black it will sell lol (seems most wives will go for a black cab over any other color guess they see it blending in more )

second
the local market around here in ks and mo has took a big dump in the past month
all i can sell is multicades and they have to be in a pac style cab nothing els is seiilng for me right now

well, prices have tanked as of late on most games. but with school clothes shopping goin into full swing, most folks have no free cash.....lol.

also, if your usin that pic as a selling point then ya need better pics. i see that pic and to me it looks like a craptastic piece of homemade junk. you said it's the original cab but it still looks horrid. good pics sell games faster.

My personal advice: You need better (and larger) pics of it from at least two angles...front and side. List it as is, for $250 obo. Say 'parts alone worth more than asking price.' Be honest. List the monitor problem.

As was said, this is a fugly cab and not original. People in this economy are looking for original and cheap; and they'll get it elsewhere if they don't get it from you.

Worse comes to worse, part it out. Board $125, Monitor $25 and cab+innards $50. There's your $200 right there.

i'm fairly sure that cab is a generic, and it's one of the uglier ones ever made. anything in that cab is a tough sell.

if you don't want to keep the cab, i doubt many would cry if it were parted out, though i don't know whether or not you could get more than $100 in parts and if the time to do it would be worth it.

That there is a Dynamo Big Boy cab. One of the uglier cabs created...

Yup. It's a dynamo cab. I gave one away for free after parting it out. Also, Xmen COTA is a terrible game. It was the first game I ever owned, and it hasn't been in a cab since I bought other games. I'd say it's a $50 game. So, honestly, $100 is a fair price for that setup. $50 for a bad game, $25 for a monitor with problems, and $25 for used electrical setup in working condition. The only other valuable part in the cab is the coin door, but that's just another $25 or so. If you want it to sell, put in a street fighter 2, or a capcom vs game in there, and fix the monitor. Then, you will be able to get a few hundred, but it still won't be much over your investment price most likely.

JFYI XMEN COTA don't sell for $125, even with the A board included. Both together is $60. B board by itself is $40, although I've seen them sell for less.

Bad game, monitor needing work.. $100 is maybe about right to a collector. Fix the monitor and you might find joe shmoe willing to give you your $200.

I live near you, and I see that game on Craigslist everytime I do a search. I never was interested because it is unsightly. I say take 125 from someone and get it gone. By the time you part it out you will have put 75 in work imho. Its a cool game, just not a cool cab. Good luck!

I was under the impression that it's original because the side graphic pieces with X-Men on them seem to be made for this cab. I have some other pictures of it:

When you say "sell the board" do you just mean the A board? Those don't seem to go for much more than $30 on Ebay.

Nope, that's the same generic art on the side of my capcom big blue cab (and every other cab that had this game in it). There's no such thing as "original" cab for this game.

I'd burn it .

Really, is this game that bad? :) I know the cab is huge, and the game itself is ok, but what's the hate for this?

Are most of you guys more into the 80's stuff, like Galaga, Gorf, etc.?

Yeah, this is more of a classics board. However, the cab isn't so bad as to burn it :p I agree it's ugly, and the game in it sucks (I've owned two COTA B boards and sold them both), but it's still a game.

Fix the monitor, ask $200, take $150, be done.

X-men is just not a very good game. If you fix the monitor you might sell it to an X-men fanboy. I would put a Vs. game in there, pull the sideart, and fix the monitor. I bet you sell it then. CPS2 games didn't have dedicated cabs at all.

Another problem with that style cab (I'm sure you're aware of, since you own it) is that it is way top heavy, and the pedestal base is kind if rickety. Mine had an area 51 in it, which was why I bought the thing, then I used the monitor, coin door, and some of the electrical to fix up a better looking cab, and gave away the rest. The guy said he was going to put in a mortal combat, I think.

I still say xmen cota is lame. I would get rid of mine, but I don't like being bothered with shipping things.

Convert it into a Major Havoc. (nudges Dave)
