What would you do? Ive gotten a few answers...but want more! What u see from the pics u can tell that the cab is in pretty good shape. the left side has 7 small scratches/gouge/nicks...the right side is a little worse with about 8 scratch/gouge/nick...all of which are about half the size of a dime. the only "major" damage is on the right upper left side of cab where there is a gouge that is about 8 inches long...half will be covered by side art. What i would like to know is if since it is original paint..and pretty solid...no minor scratches all over it....would you leave it the way it is...put new side art on...and leave cab alone? Or should i fix everything and repaint? Would like to know what hardcore collectors have to say....Thanks! I have already put new bezel..control panel...bezel instruction sticker...coin sticker on and painted the black inside corners...so from front it looks amazing. will be powdercoating marquee brackets and coin door...already ordered new faceplate kits from NERDendo. Just so you have idea...u can be 5 feet away and not see barely any flaws...but obviously when you put your face 1 foot away they all start sticking out. got allot of indents where things have rubbed or bumped up against..but did not damage paint. let me know what you guys think!

I would normally redo the sides, but the original laminate looks great and would leave it. If it really bothers you then redo the sides, but it will take a great deal of effort and time to make the look as nice as laminate with paint after patching the gouges.

I didnt see anything from the photos that would make me want to have to redo the sides. If it was my personal cab i would do what you did and leave the sides except for putting on sideart of course.

Just get more cabs. That way when you put them all together there will be no room to see the sides.

Simple solution, really...

ok...sounds good. that is what i want to do anyway...since my red dk has been a pain in the ass to redo from head to toe...and the blue one will be in between the red and my pinball...so i will install side art today. thanks for the advice guys!!!

Don't touch it.

I personally like the "lived in" look - something between "artificially sterile" and "completely trashed." It's a delicate balance, but this machine is right in that perfect zone. On the upper end of it, really.

Painting would be insane, on several levels. In my view, it is so much better to have "original but a little dinged up" than "new and pristine." (Though this too is a delicate balance.)

I would certainly trade my DK for this one. Wait until you see my ugly duckling...

Well....got a red and blue....gonna convert red pcb back to original programming with ladder cheat...and gonna leave blue alone...just pretty it up. Eventually I will sell blue....I want a Galaga...or star wars...

QUOTE=mhanlen1;1955041]So what exactly are you going to do with 2 DK's? Multi Kong One? Sell one? I'd put side art on it and call it done.[/QUOTE]

My DK Cocktail had the ladder cheat. Then I got the DKII kit, and since it replaces the ROMS, no more ladder cheat. Once you play DK enough, the ladder cheat wont be a big deal. The 3rd elevator board is what really separates fair weather players like myself from real DK players. I couldn't hack it.

got the side art on...looks 100% better...even though side art has a few bubbles....not bad for my first attempt though...and as far as the ladder cheat....i just think it would be cool to have one machine with the original programming from the first 500-1000 machines. not looking to make game easier..just the nostalgia?? Third elevators are a bitch..but practice..research strategy...and it actually isnt that bad. Still dont know when to retreat though....

Ah, excellent, good to know this about D2K, I wasn't sure about that.

I'm currently sort-of-petitioning Twin Galaxies to (among other things) allow D2K hardware for DK submissions. Part of the reason is so that "TKG3" board owners will be able to compete, which they should be able to if D2K upgrades the ROMs to a standard "TKG4" game.

Third elevators is a peripheral-vision/muscle memory thing. I thought I'd never get it either, but I did.

Don't repaint. It's too close to good/original to mess that up. I did repaint my DK Jr cabinet, but it had to holes cut through the sides, near the control panel, so it could be pulled around I guess. Only reason I would paint one is if there's major issues.

I doubt they'll allow the D2K for DK submissions. They don't allow any add-on boards for any other games, unless that add-on board was required. I have a TKG3 board in my cocktail, and it didn't have the ladder cheat.

D2K is different though, and unique, in the sense that TG tracks D2K itself.

In other words, not only is this very same hardware configuration allowed for D2K, it's necessary!

Plus, the kit is well-known, Jeff is well-known, and I'm sure Jeff can confirm that DK doesn't run any differently through the D2K add-on.

As long as Donkey Kong has special recording rules, they might as well make an exception to the "no add-ons" for D2K.

People with D2K in their Donkey Kong cabinets really should not have to risk the life of their hardware swapping the Z80 in and out every time they want to record a submission game of DK. TG is essentially endangering DK boards by having this rule.

On the one hand, with good lacquer and meticulous technique one can repaint a Donkey Kong to look like a flawless easter egg. An easy, breezy, beautiful flawless easter egg. A flawless easter egg with the inner glow of pregnancy. Of virginity and pregnancy. Or rather one of those easter candies that used to be all the rage, the little elongated egg-shaped things made of cane sugar and dye. The ones that used to hurt your teeth the instant you started chewing them.

On the other hand I love being able to rate a game "Too near perfect to..."

Originality can not be improved.

If it was me, and I was planning on submitting DK scores to TG, I'd just buy a second DK board and use that.
