Recently picked up a complete Lock 'n Chase cabinet in very good condition, but PS and PCB are both not working. Neither of these parts is currently available from the folks on this forum.

CP has a joystick and one 'lock' button in addition to the 1P & 2P buttons. I do not want to punch another hole in the CP, as the overlay is in good condition.

So what can i do with this one? Any other Taitor vertical games that only use 1 button?

Definitely keep it as a Lock n Chase! Very cool game!

I wouldn't think the pcb would be too hard to find! I hate to plug Ebay what so so ever, but did you try there? I swear I have seen one of these lately....

I'm sure there is someone here who would fix it up. the power supply problems could very well be causing the pcb problems. I would rebuild the ps and see what the pcb does after that.

and please post lots of pics of the machine, it is not one we see very often.

Pretty sure a lock n chase board can be ran off a switcher. Possibly replace the original PS and see if the board works. If not then look into getting a new board or fixing the old one.

I worked up a connector for a switcher and all i got was a screen of odd letters - nothing close to the game display. The board puts off a slight burning chip odor, but no smoke has been obvious.

I have not been able to determine anyone who could test or rework the PCB or PS boards.

When i got the machine the PS fuses were blown. When i checked the voltages at the connector, the +/- 5V values are close to zero. Bob Roberts doesn't have a cap kit, and nothing is obviously burnt/broken, so i don't know where to start on fixing that board.

thanks for the ideas!

Would you mind posting some pics of the control panel and joystick? I'm looking for a joystick for mine, if you happen to have any spares...
I have a spare pcb, but it is non-working, I haven't really pursued having it repaired so I'm not sure who could do it. This is a rare game, but no one seems to care about them, lol. I'm going to do a complete restore on mine eventually.

Put that you are looking for a board in your signature in large obnoxious letters, it worked when I was looking for a Galaga '88 board. :D

I'll try to snap some pictures this coming weekend.

I know Dick Millikan has repaired these boards before. Get rid of the power supply and put a switcher in while Dick is repairing the board.

Sounds likely that you have a board issue as the switcher should provide the necessary voltages. Although if you haven't you may want to check the voltage across a chip. It's possible the voltage is low on the board and causing it to boot to garbage. Personally I would leave the old ps in the cab but not utilize it but that's just me. It's just in case I ever want to repair it. Not sure who repairs these. I think Mark Spaeth can but I don't know how willing he is to do so. I'm sure a few others can. I've found that if you have a jamma adapter for a board there are more people willing to take a look at a board and see if they can repair it. BTW I've also seen a few of these on ebay in the past year so they do pop up.

The old PS will stay with the game, and i may try to get it working if i see anything meaningful out of the board.

I checked a chip on the top board and the voltage was 4.97, which seems fine to me.

the green pic show the screen with green patterns, but also EFGH in the upper right corner - anyone know what that might mean?

the board pic shows that most of the EPROMS do not have anything over the center - could the chips have been cleared somehow?

thanks for any ideas

Dick said he was not interested in working on my board.

Sadly, this appears to be the fate of many of the older/odd boards.

I am currently getting my workbench upgraded and ready to do this kind of work, but I am not able to take on this job at this time. Maybe in a few months I can take a look, but for now it is just not possible.

Try turning up the power supply slightly so the board is reading in the 5.05 range and see what you get.

Let me know if there is something else you'd like to see.

Well if you can't find a replacement board and waiting for repairs is something you don't want to do you can always put a Polaris boardset in there. It runs the same configuration and is a really fun game.

The problem is Polaris is just as hard to find as Lock N Chase...

By configuration do you mean pin out or just control set up? I may be totally wrong but I thought they were pinned out different. I mention this because I will be converting a polaris to a lock n chase. It will be convertible back if I want. Just thought they were different pin outs but I may be incorrect.

I was referring to the controls configuration, not the pinouts. From a quick look at the pinouts for each game an adaptor would need to be made to make it easily deconvertable.
