Have a few boxes of Blue CPS2 boards that are dead, mostly likely the suicide battery. Nothing special title-wise: Marvel Super Heroes, Street Fighter Alpha 2, X-Men vs. SF, etc.

These don't seem to be bringing much on eBay these days, at least not worth the money and time to buy the Phoenix roms.

Any advice here? Sell them as-is? Any cheap options to revive them? Anybody want to buy them?

Relevant to my interests. I've wanted to make a Progear (duh) for some time, but the big-ass EPROMs are spendy as shit. And then when you're done with it, you better want to play it yourself forever because it seems Phoenix'd boards sit forever and sell for next to nothing.

What we all need it seems is a cheap source of 27C322's...

I'd also love to make a Progear. Phoenixed boards are generally worth a bit more than non-phoenixed, it's when it's converted to another game the value is lost.

since I'm feeling money poor at the moment I haven't been collecting arcade things. I'd Phoenix them(just for the sake of having working games) but I'm not sure about the cost issues others have mentioned.

Can any CPS2 game be converted with ROMS to any other CPS2 game? To Progear?

I just looked up Progear and it looks like a pretty cool game.

Also, typically, how long before Sepuku when a CPS2 game is unplugged?

Thanks!
Tom

CPS2 games have a battery in them, so it is not a matter of when it is unplugged as much as when did the battery die. My experience is that battery death happens about 20 minutes after you last tested them and put them on the shelf

I haven't had any CPS-2 boards to fix yet, personally. But it's my understanding that they can be "resurrected" by swapping out the decrypted EPROMs, found in the "d" suffix MAME romsets. For example, the romset "xmvsfu1d" is the decrypted roms for "xmvsfu1" which is X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (USA). So find the decrypted romsets, and try programming your own "phoenix" roms...

Most can be converted. You need the right PAL chip for the right game. Not to mention jumper settings wich can be tricky. I am working on an F3 conversion now for Darius.

I have made Progear and SF2 AE

I buy dead boards. Phoenixed boards are worth about the same as originals. Collectors seem to only want originals.
