I'm going to Chicago this weekend with my wife for a mini vacation. We are just going for the night and don't have a whole lot of time there, but what is there to do arcade related? We are staying downtown and will not have a car, just going to use the subway.

Thanks
Joe

If you are just going for the night, forget about the arcade scene. Treat your wife to a night on the town. Chicago is a great city. Lots of great steak places to eat at.

Galloping ghost arcade in Brookfield, it's the second largest arcade in the USA. If you wanna venture off and visit a real arcade that has been opened since 1985 visit my personal friends at Starworlds arcade In dekalb il

Nevermind I just read you didn't have a car

I didnt know my wife ha an account on here! :)
I was just checking to see if there was something to go see real quick since there is so much history there.

I think there's a Metra station a couple blocks from Galloping Ghost in Brookfield. I know the tracks are only a block or two away, just not sure where the station itself is located.. It would be on the Burlington line.

I second the motion for Galloping Ghost Arcade (Brookfield, IL) and Star Worlds arcade (DeKalb, IL). Both are phenomenal for different reasons. If you can find the transportation to get to either of them, go for it.

I'd have lunch at Chez Quis, visit the Sears Tower, check out the Mercantile Exchange, visit the Art Institute, and finally wrap it all up with a parade.

Just be sure to get the car back before Dad gets home...

Don't even know where to start, one day is def not enough to stay or do the town justice.

For one night in town I'd probably hit a museum or see a play, (the chicago art museum is awesome, one of the best in the country) blue man is cool if you never seen it before, plenty of great food places and bars on Rush street. Gibson's, Tavern on Rush. Uno's Pizza is not far away, famous shopping on the mag mile etc etc.

Plenty of museums as well but if you were only doing one museum do the Museum of science and industry, its nice.

The planetarium, shed aquarium, Field museum, millennium park, Soldiers Field, Buckingham fountain (not on in winter)are all walking distance from each other,

Sears tower (the big willie) has that glass floor that extends over the building side on the observation deck.

Honestly I'd rather just wander the City and explore if I only have 1 day... Personally here's some suggestions for Food:

There's a Bar / Resteraunt on the (I want to say, but am not positive) 96th floor of the John Hancock building and the view is amazing. It's also on "The Magnificent Mile" which is fun to just walk and see / pop in all the specialty shops.

Also if you like Jazz / Blues - House of Blues does a number of good acts.

"Ditka" and "Harry Caray" also have cool restaurants.

Fogo De Chao is also a Chuscaria place with a fantastic "don't eat all day before you get there" buffet.

Everything I mentioned should be pretty accessible by the trains.

Also There's a Chicago Microbrew (served around town) called "Goose Island" that has a decent lager, but an amazing Sasparilla.

Have fun!

Use the alias, "Abe Froman" if you get in a bind, that guy has some pull.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The plan right now is to hit the Sears tower, deep dish pizza, Field Museum, and outdoor ice skating.

I know this is a bit late but...

Haunted Trails in Burbank...I LIVED at this place in the early 90's...so many great memories
Enchanted Castle in Lombard...I lived here too...

Haven't been to either of these places in a LONG time

Joe, should have let me know. I lived there for almost 20 years. If you are downtown, go to WaterTower Place. Just take the wife's cards away first :D.

Field Museum is awesome. Pizzeria Due (49 East Ontario Street) for deep dish. Rush Street (just around the corner from WTP) use to have tons of bars & restaurants. Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) is awesome. Go down to Lower Wacker to the Billy Goat Pub (the inspiration for Balushi's "Cheesburger, cheesburger, Pepsi" skits). Find out who is playing at the Kingston Blues Mine if you like the blues. Lincoln Avenue down by Lincoln park has about a mile of bars and clubs. Oven Grinders (2121 N Clark) for a different take on Pizza (order the mediterranean bread for an appetizer).

Dammmit. Now you got me hungry...........

For something really nice, go back in the summer and take one of the sunset harbor cruises.

My wife and I had a great time at Second City's comedy club. I would recommend making reservations in advance though. We didn't and just showed up and went on standby, and managed to be the last two people they let in, but we just got lucky that two other people who had bought tickets didn't show.

Deep dish pizza - Gino's East
Steak - Gibsons ($$$$$)

Check out:

Michigan Ave shops
Green Mill - 4802 N Broadway St (oldest bar in the city and one of the oldest Jazz clubs in the world)
Buddy Guy's Legends (Blues Club)
Navy Pier
Willis Tower Skydeck (formerly Sears Tower)
There is also an ESPN Zone and they probably have arcade games.
