What the world needs - another Tron restoration!

I don't have a clue where to start with the wiring harness. no one seems to want answer any of my question when I ask- really not very helpful.
Am going to have to scratch build the wiring harness but Have no ideal what I need or where to get it. Am not a super electronics guy or have a degree in engineering.

I make metal things..jewelry to aircraft parts. Been thinking about making my cab out of lighter composite sides with a internal frame to help make it lighter. But not sure that would even be worth it. Not sure if I even have the correct measurements for that.

Maybe people are just tired of hearing about another TRON cab project.

Oh ok. I can help out - i have an Elevator action for example that has a "custom" wiring harness (from scratch). I mean, its possible but ALOT of work.

Its just wire. You just have to make sure the wire is connected to the right points / nothing crosses. It might take awhile to do.

We can talk more off line if you would like (we can even chat on the phone if you like). PM me.

Otherwise, hopefully you can find a harness - i would send a message to a few of the vendors (like Quarter arcade, Garage arcade) and ask them to help you locate one - they come across them i am sure. I will look for one as well.

Got most of the front hardware on, and assembled the coin door.

Coin door issue - i lost three small bolts that mount the coin slots to the front - need to order them. Otherwise, i like how the paint job came out (just satin black) and the new Midway adhesive logo from Arcade shop.

Please note the shroud is painted flat black (only had Krlyon plastic spray paint on hand, flat). I think it looks ok - let me know what you think.

Was going to mount the marquee, but had an issue fitting it need to find out why (maybe i have the trims reversed). Other than that, besides being time consuming, it went ok.

All the pieces that fit into the front (CP, Metal bars, shroud) are VERY tight fits and leads to alot of nervous moments since i dont want to scratch up the sides. See if you can catch a few scratches as a result in the pics. Oh well, nothing major.

I should be diving into the electronics / past cosmetics by this weekend. I think i have ALOT to do before she is working - remember it was non working when i got it, and, i may have convergence issues (not looking forward to it at all).

Quick update - machine is all together now (just need to put locks on the back).

-- Replaced Coin slot bolts with some bolts i had laying around - cut them to size.

-- Have the machine working now! Thanks to Arcade shop adapter, i have lights, monitor turns on, 5, -5 and 12 volts (nearly 12 - 11.75 or so). Great news considering the cab was not working when i got it.

-- CDJump checked my boards and made some ROM fixes - happy to know the board is on its way. Thanks Chris!

-- Three front lights work fine, back landscape light doesnt work. It Is getting AC, so, need to troubleshoot it tomorrow. I replaced the starter already, so its either the light fixture clip or the ballast. I have spares on hand, so will just replace them.

-- I Reported that the spinner was binding - no visible sticking points. I oiled it with 3 in 1, spinner is SMOOTH now. Cant wait to get Tron flailing!

-- Bought an Encom Marquee from a fellow Klov'r - excited to get that installed (the More cowbell version).

are you missing a coin slot on the right? Where would you get replacement parts for something like that?

Nice and shiny
hope to see some pics of the game working

Yes - i was missing the slot in the phots - I had the slot but lost three of the small bolts. I am sure they will turn up. Corrected it last night - had some #6-32 bolts, cut them down to 1/4 (or so) and put them in.

Shiny parts are the result of a rock tumbler - berry tumbler (blue one, about 50 dollars or so online).

Should have the game running by Wednesday or so. Going to focus on a few other games i've been neglecting for a few days (take a break from Tron!).

I have a jewelry tumble (with stainless steel shot) and a vibrating tumbler that should help when I get to that part.

You think you are taking a break but am sure it will be burning in the back of your head hehe

Looking great, nice job on the restore. If you want to bring the plastic parts like the monitor shroud back to life I highly reccomend vinyl spray paint. A company called SEM makes the best stuff. Its used to paint trim and even vinyl seats in car restorations. I have used it many times and its awesome stuff.

Hi -

The photo album is in order from start to finish.

Latest update:

-- Cosmetically game is done!!! (with exception to an Encom marquee i plan to put on in a few days).

-- Electronics - game is lit up (rebuilt the back marquee completely and now works), voltages correct all around, monitor seems to be running, just waiting on boards back from CD Jump and then i may be able to actually play Tron!! As noted in past posts, i do expect purity / convergence issues :(

Oh yeah - notice the left coin door slot is out? I notice on Arcade shop power supplies the Coin door lights burn out QUICKLY. Anyone have this experience? I have the same issue on my Spy hunter cockpit.

Oh yeah - notice the left coin door slot is out? I notice on Arcade shop power supplies the Coin door lights burn out QUICKLY.

have you checked the voltage bulbs that are in there? if they burn really bright and then die you have lower voltage bulbs in there. you should be using #194 12v lamps in there.

Awesome man!! That looks sweet! Yeah, you're using 5/6V bulbs (44's or 47's) and they should be 12V (194's or 1813's). That's not Anthony's fault LMAO SMOC!

Thanks for the compliments. This was a labor of love for sure.

Tracking shows PCBs should be here tomorrow - i know that she will fire up now that the power supply is solid. Just wondering how the monitor will end up - recent cap kit AND the purity rings are out of alignment.

One positive, i think to the monitor adjusting i think i will need to do - is that Tron is a flat monitor - instead of the mirror to front trick i may be able to adjust standing right behind it since the monitor is angled to see from the back.

The bulbs - coincidentally as soon as i posted yesterday about them i saw this thread going on: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=182258&highlight=#194.

Yes- i am using 555s in there (on both my SH and this Tron, wedge base). My wifes dad has an auto parts business, so she is scoring me the 194s and 161s (lower wattage). That should fix both cabs.

Tonight, i am going to put on the front kickplate. Debated not doing it, but decided its original and i have one anyway.

Me likely...
Just hope to be tackeling a pair of these myself - once I have the Star Trek SOS done. Proably be using some of the info in this thread if I decide to do it. :crosses fingers:

Thanks Zitt. I Have been following your Star Trek thread closely - I am really impressed by your attention to detail - *when* you get around to the Trons i would love to see your technique applied.

As for Star Trek - I fondly recall playing that one BITD - i must have been 7 or so - i remember it clearly almost like it happened yesterday. Sitting in the captains chair is one of the best arcade experiences. That game holds up very well to this day.

Todays update. Got the boards back from CD Jump - very, extremely fast turnaround. Game had a ROM issue, so it was a good service.

Swapped in new ribbon cables - game wouldnt start - turns out one of the cables i put in incorrectly / off a row. Game plays blind now - as expected, this monitor is going to drive me nuts.

I get a neck glow, but no picture. Learning as much as i can on WG4900 series (the monitor says WG423268 or something like that). Any advice? I know i first need to check B+ but nowhere, not even in the manuals does it explain where to check that!

Wish i had a G07 in this cab....... any advice is appreciated.
