All I think the op was stating is the culture has changed around here quite a bit and I would tend to agree. The culture of the hobby in general seems like it has changed quite a lot. Far more rabid than I remember.

i've only been trying to collect for about 2 years and in that time the number of dedicated classics you see listed has plummeted (and there weren't many before). so glad i ran out of room. makes choices a lot easier and the hunt more tolerable lol.

I got into the hobby 5 years ago and even in that short time span, I've seen the market dry up significantly. As with anything that was once plentiful and becomes scarce, rabidity follows. But I still ain't paying $850 for Wrestlefest.

many KLOVers that have given me many good deals, and i have returned the favor many times. KLOV isn't innately good or bad. it is what we make it. :)

This - I have picked up several free cabs from other local collectors and I've given away a few valuable things that I didn't need but others would. I have also gotten/given many good deals to/from members.

With the rising prices in the hobby at large, I still feel like selling here is the low end of the market place. Every once in a while you see the TNT MK1 sell for way more than I recently sold mine for or these SF2CEs go for 2x their normal price but we are mostly cheap bastards (even if we have the money to spend) and we tend to keep pricing down. I prefer to sell most things here so they stay in rotation in the community but I know I'm taking a price hit for doing it, and that's ok.

I had a generic cab with a Pandora's Box in it I sold off recently that I would have been ashamed to offer here for sale at half of what it sold for on CL.

Video games are a huge part of our culture and there will always be interest in the classics. I think the only thing that can hurt prices at this point is a decline in the economy, or full repros built with high standards that are cheaper than the old games. Yes some people will still want the originals but if you could buy a brand new discs of tron environmental from China or India for $1500 would you rather pay $5000 for an old one?

I'd still go for the classic(finances permitting, of course), as I just can't stand the idea of CRT games on an LCD. Hell, I don't even like having my Atari consoles attached to anything but CRTs.

while i would not completely disagree with that statement, i have many KLOVers that have given me many good deals, and i have returned the favor many times.

Flag on the post, offsetting penalties:

First, a "Good Point" was made.
Second, no meme.

Penalties offset, repeat 3rd down.
If we could all just agree to not buy anything arcade game related for a year, prices would plummet.

Who's in?

Y'all late for the party. Last thing I bought "arcade" related was the Secret Santa stuff.... and before that, just parts for my Pole Position. If you're talking actual machines... that goes back several years to when I bought Dig Dug.

I don't know, this and other collector's sites were always the place to go for non CL/ebay prices. Now it seems like they are no different. $600 for some Paperboy handlebars WTF?!

I'm ok about the pricing to each their own. What irks me more are folks just scooping up good deals on games they don't even want and storing/hoarding them to markup or use as trade bait. It seems like more and more collectors are just buying for the sake of hoarding and flipping. Leave that stuff for someone that actually wants the game.

We still get "bro" pricing here.... Hell, I've gotten some insanely good deals on parts, and once I can swing offering stuff at "bro prices", I will certainly do so.

I don't go around asking to buy stuff at "bro prices", but when something comes my way in that regard, I'm very grateful for it, as right now, our financial situation is bad. Could always be worse, though.... so there is that.

almost ditto in terms of when i joined and what i've seen

while i bemoan some of the deals i passed on (like an idiot), i'm very thankful for the few i got when i did

if i was entering the hobby in 2018, i'd probably just do an about-face and walk out the door.

I wish you'd still do that, you miserable wretch.

Iggy, you are the undisputed king of multiquote.

It is a much under-utilized function. I remember back in the day when we would bitch people out for multi-posting 3-200 replies in a row, just because they were quoting someone.

I'm also really good at using AHA smileys over here.

That reminds me, you haven't even created a VAPS entry.
Tsk tsk.

I thought about that recently. When I started this hobby about 10 years ago I remember craigslist having a bunch of reasonably priced games at any given time. Now theres 1-2 dedicated 80s and 90s games at time that are massively overpriced even by todays standards.

I miss those days.

If I had to start collecting arcade machines from scratch. Today. I would offer free storage for playable arcade machines.

I don't make a profit from friends and as a friend I help my friends in their hobbies..

Yes, I collect arcade machines but I also collect a really pretty good group of friends.

I'm within the same mindset. The 10 years i've been in this hobby, i've had games come and go, and have met some interesting people and made some great friends along the way. When it comes to parts I have lying around and just don't need, I pass them along to friends who I know can use it.
