If I sell something for what the marker will bear, that buyer will end up using the product. It I sell something cheap, the chance is there that someone will buy it cheap and sell it for what the market will bear.

You want something cheap or broken then you have to be patient. I find that the list will replentish itself eventually. I have seen the same game change hands and get increasingly more expensive over the last 4 or 5 yeas watching craigslist and that is just watching the Bay Area. I also see less games and thus they are more expensive, plus the crazy high price of pins drives up arcades as well, they are sort of connected.

So I should never sell my arcade machines cause they will be parted out or worse turn into 1n60 machines..

A lot/most of those 90's jamma boards came from the gazillion Japanese arcades that have been closing one by one for the last fifteen years . On Yahoo japan, Japanese shops and Ebay there has been a steady stream of boards all this time but now we are at very the end , even over there they demand crazy prices , often worse than anywhere else .
We bled the well dry, collectors kept those the boards so prices go up .

I think I need to fix my Namco Hellfire PCB.

Get better friends..

Got a call from someone needed a ms pacman pcb..

Drove over an hour dropped it off. It didn't work.
Pulled out the spare.. that worked..

The friendship is worth the drive and any cost the pcb board was.

I don't make a profit from friends and as a friend I help my friends in their hobbies..

Yes, I collect arcade machines but I also collect a really pretty good group of friends.

I get parts and pieces from other arcade collectors at little to no cost. I give them needed parts at little to no cost. If something cool pops up I let them know about it, if I'm not interested.

If I have something that is the PCB of the moment I ebay it. I like money.

part of the fun.

If any of my friends wants to buy me an EDOT or the new Iron Maiden Pinball machine I will love you forever. :D

Prices for anything collectible have gone through the roof.

Just look at collectible cars. Crazy prices there.

Video games are a huge part of our culture and there will always be interest in the classics. I think the only thing that can hurt prices at this point is a decline in the economy, or full repros built with high standards that are cheaper than the old games. Yes some people will still want the originals but if you could buy a brand new discs of tron environmental from China or India for $1500 would you rather pay $5000 for an old one?

Don't get me wrong, I like money too. I just look at capital investment of time, money and effort equals how much net profit I am going to get after I am done with it. If my net profit equals less than 35 an hour. I should be working a real job instead that nets me more than the 35..

Doing something that generates the sub 35 is consider a hobby and should generate the fun factor to compensate. Fun has a cost and you should be aware of it.

The difference between you and I, however, is that I don't count the time I spend doing things in the hobby as compensible time. I suppose that could fall under your category of "fun factor" that offsets the cost.

Prices are just insane, I feel its about people just trying to get rich rather than to help out the community.

These are just listings I've seen in the past couple months for just the PCBs.

Killer Instinct 1 $450
Street Fighter 2 $300+
TMNT $300

WTF!

Just a few years back KI1 was at a solid $300, SF2WW, CE and Turbo at $90-$120 max and TMNT at $100.

This isn't ebay, we know what these things are worth. I've been in the hobby since 2010 and yes prices have fluctuated but now its just unbearable.

I know more people feel like this but its flippers and asshats who are getting angry when we "Thread bash", no its a notice to not rip people off who just want to play a damn game.

Disgusted...

Couldn't agree with you more! At the same time...I also understand that as time goes on and things become more in demand, prices are going to rise tremendously. Especially when you have certain folks who hover around the community for the sole purpose of financial gain. All in all, it makes complete sense...but doesn't make it any less frustrating.
Glad I obtained the majority of my board collection when I did. Keep on keepin' on, fellow collector! [emoji106]
